just a question.wondering what everyone has done.when my mom had us there was no option of epidural or other drugs, she gave birth natural to us with no drugs.no c section either.i am asking because today there seems to be alot of drugs out there for the birth process.i have to say i gave birth to my first and only baby natural with no drugs in my system.i am proud of that.if you know me by now on here you know i don't like any drugs at all...
i have to say there are some instances where drugs are good and can be helpful today in birthing but i am not a fan of them personally...just me...
when you gave birth were you medicated? This thread is currently associated with: N/A

I'm not into the idea of natural childbirth, so I asked for an epidural immediately, hoping it would help me to deal with the pressure. The epidural didn't work. At all. Nothing was numb. The nurse commented afterward, "Well, that was natural childbirth."
The funny thing is, I didn't really feel pain in the entire process of labour/delivery. It lasted 32 hours, and it was just the pressure and the urge to push that I was fighting for the last couple of hours (and I think they let me go too long before the OB was called-- my husband says the resident was given a dressing down by the OB in the hallway afterward) I've always heard that labour is painful.
If I have a second child, I don't think I'll even bother with an epidural.

i think if anything that was me as well.the pressure bothered me so much.i had about 5 showers.hot showers in the birthing room as the pressure on my back was so intense.hubby says he rolled a pop can on me so hard it exploded and pop came out....i was in so much pain i cant remember that...lol...the thing that bothers me about epidural is when it works you don;t feel anything.a friend of mine had one and she regrets it,because she didn't feel the birth at all...

Well, with my first one it was a homebirth (by accident) so of course, I had NOTHING. And at the time, I was 16 (2 days shy of 17) and hadn't even told my mum until a few weeks before, so I was completely unprepared...thus why I never considered I was in labor, at only 28 weeks. But I was in labor for 2 or 3 days.
With Luna, I got the epidural. I had planned on 100% natural, because I hate needles. Well, I ended up having to have an IV (for the Strep B) and the nurse was sorta pushing the epidural, saying it was great...and since I already had an IV in me, I thought to hell with it.
And I am soooo glad I did. If I hadn't had it, I KNOW I would have torn, would've been pushing at the wrong times and stuff. But I didn't tear at all.
Sorry, sorta long, lol.

I had a natural birth for both my kids, and not by choice! LOL! The first time I was already 6.5cm dialated when I came to the hospital, thought I could get through it, then when I decided to ask for meds the nurses thought it best that I wait for my Dr.
But but he didn't come until I was already 10cm and ready to push!! Pushed for 2.5hrs and thought that any woman that had ever given birth was a God! LOL! I said that I'd never do it again!!
But fastforward 4.5yrs and I had another baby! This time I was determined to demand drugs!!! LOL! However, I arrived at the hospital at 9.5cm dialated and was pushing within the hour, so again, no drugs!
Now I mean it when I say that we are D-O-N-E with having kids! LOL!
Wouldn't wish a natural birth on my worst enemy, but was well worth it in the end!!!
Looking back, I am very happy that I had a natural birth for both kids.

All natural with no pain meds for both children. The nurses and dr's thought I was a scientologist as I was so silent. I just am quiet when I'm in pain. It hurt a lot but I had a focal point (as silly as it sounds with the 2nd it was a door knob) I think the most painful part was the burning sensation. My first labout was 16 hours 2nd was under 2 hours start to finish. Honestly, the 2nd hurt more because it was so fast and instense IMMEDIATELY. He never stopped flopping around like a fish outta water either, they couldn't even use the monitoring belts because hed kick em off haha. My first just gently tossed and moved once in a while.. heh kids are so different from each other.
But just because I didn't use pain meds didn't mean I didn't want them for the stitches! YOUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
Eta. I don't think an epi has anything doing with tearing or needing an epis. if anything I figure you'd be more likely to having an epi and not feeling whats going on.Last edited by Sally888; Tue, Apr 19th, 2011 at 12:32 AM.

Epidural with the 1st baby.....two actually because the first one did not take properly and ended up working on one side of my body only...was so weird!!! When it came time to push, I had no idea I was having contractions. My DH and the nurse were telling me when to push. They had to hold my legs as I could not feel them. I could only feel a mild burning sensation.
My other two kids were natural (kinda other than the laughing gas that made me puke) and super fast!!! There was no time to have anything lol....I barely made it to the hospital.
If you were to ask me which I preferred....I would say the natural childbirth. I felt more aware and in control of my body. And as much as it hurt, I am glad I was able to work through it and experience it.
Good luck with whatever you choose!Need Norwex? I can ship to anywhere in Canada for $4.95!!!! Check out my site http://lyndseymackenzie.norwex.biz/

I tried the laughing gas which made me dizzy and nauseous. Then they gave me gravol which really seemed to help more than anything! I was scared of getting an epidural but if my labour would have been longer or more painful I might have considered it. I'm due today with #2 and am hoping to go natural but will keep my options open...

I have not had any children yet. My mom had 6 children with no epidurals. I am planning on having a natural childbirth with my future children. I have a very high pain tollerance. I had 4 thrombolitic surgeries, fully awake and non-sedated. I had 2 T3s...and that was it, now just hold still while we hammer this through your veins. Yep, refusing the morphine and sedation were two of the things that halped me beat the odds and live!

Well, if it was luck, I hope I have it, again!
But, Luna was pretty big, so maybe I am stretchy, lol. Hopefully this one is smaller or same size, so less chance of tearing. :p
And yeah, that nurse was a wee bit..mean. I kept 'clenching up' and totally wasn't doing it on purpose, but she kept yelling at me like I was.
