With the military's announcement Thursday that he has completed the operational phase of his career, William looks free to spend more time with his wife, Kate, and their 2-month-old son, Prince George, while he takes on more royal engagements and charity roles.
His active military career, a traditional rite of passage for senior royals, lasted more than seven years, first in the Army and then in the Royal Air Force.
The military said he had participated in 156 search and rescue operations, helping to rescue 149 people. He has completed more than 1,300 flying hours.

Prince George to be christened October 23
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the timings of their son's christening on 23 October. The baptism of Prince George will take place at 15:00 BST in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace and last about 45 minutes, Kensington Palace said.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, will perform the christening at the private service.
The prince, who was born on 22 July at St Mary's Hospital in London, is third in line to the throne.
High-ranking royal babies including the Queen, the Prince of Wales and Prince William have been christened at Buckingham Palace in the recent past.
Princess Beatrice was the last royal baby to be christened at the Chapel Royal, in December 1988.

My goodness, Prince George is quite the cutie!
What a nice surprize to see him! Just happened to have on CTV news channel when they went live to the arrivals at the chapel.
William was holding him, Kate beside, as they arrived at the chapel with the Queen and Prince Philip, Charles and Camilla.Last edited by Natalka; Wed, Oct 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 AM.

The baby will be baptized in a replica Honiton lace white gown since the original robe—first worn by Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter Princess Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa during her christening in 1841—was deemed too delicate to be worn again.
The original gown was used at many royal christenings, including William’s. The last royal baby to wear the ensemble was Prince Edward’s daughter, Lady Louise, in 2004.
