Other then the US using this for bragging rights I don't see what his death accomplishes. He has been hiding for 10 years, he hasn't been incontrol for atleast 9. I believe this is going to create more plots against the US. They may not follow through but the US is taking credit for someone that they idiolize.

This is not just about bragging rights though. This is justice for the families of thousands of people who were killed on 911. This is a huge moral blow for Bin Ladin's followers, who saw him as a legend and an inspiration and a huge moral boost for the US and it's allies, who have been searching for a needle in a haystack for a decade.

And if you don't think one man has any power, consider where the NDP would be right now if Jack Layton stepped aside.

I think this is going to be a lot scary than the people celebrating in the streets understand right now. I totally understand why they are jubilant but Osama, while the "poster child" for al qaeda, he certainly wasn't the only whack job who stood against anything Western.

Thousands are at ground zero "celebrating" I think thats celebrating something that shouldn't be celebrated. Even if it is truly Bin Laden that they killed do we honestly all believe that all of a sudden all his followers will start growing gardens and put down the guns? No. Sorry, someone else will reign. It wasn't just him who "soley" planned 9/11. It's scary but there are another too many evil people at least who would gladly be the next Bin.
I dont think its the end... thats all....Last edited by Sally888; Mon, May 2nd, 2011 at 01:59 AM.

talking with my mom about this this evening.. and although people are celebrating she brings up some valid points.. he is only really the face of the organization he's been sick for many many years now pretty much a dying man on his death bed (dialasis and such) so its not like he was truly the "leader" organizing everything and now the teliban are lost without him.... there are other people doing the job and those people are still there they just are not as known as he is.. yes he may be dead BUT there are all his followers, and the others who are running the organization

The U.S. State Department is putting American embassies on alert and is warning Americans abroad of possible reprisal attacks from al-Qaeda and its affiliates around the world after the killing of the group's leader Osama bin Laden by American forces in Pakistan.
In a worldwide travel alert released shortly after President Barack Obama late Sunday announced bin Laden's death in a military operation, the department said there was an "enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counterterrorism activity in Pakistan."
It said Americans living or travelling abroad, particularly in areas that have been hit by anti-American violence in the past should limit travel outside their homes and avoid large gatherings.
The alert said U.S. embassy operations would continue "to the extent

I'm very scared for our troops down there now. People will retaliate, and they wont care if its USA or CANADIAN troops.

Oh my goodness, no! Let me clarify.
I'm not comparing them as people. I'm just saying that one charismatic person has the ability to rally a lot of support. When that one person is gone, things can fizzle out, at least until another charismatic leader comes along.
I agree that it's not over. But this was one major blow.
And as far as getting a new leader and carrying on...how has that been working out for the Liberals?
Sorry! I did it again! I must have the election on my mind.
