You're lucky to be in the south where spring seems to come earlier!
Glad it's on its way:

Yup that's about what it looks like here BUT I still count March as the beginning of the end. They predict fairly mild temps here for the next 2 weeks hovering around freezing give or take during the day. Doesn't help that we got 15 cm yesterday but what the heck. I can feel the rumbling of the tulips trying to fight their way up through the snow
I can't wait , Kiera and I planted about 400 tulips in the fall.Last edited by Patty Smyth; Fri, Mar 1st, 2013 at 08:49 AM.

For sure, Patty, it's all positive now - we still might get a good ole spring snowstorm, but it's not going to get to -30 or lower any more!
Gosh, you must be so eager to see those tulips - it will be SO awesome to see them!
For us on the prairies, spring is really here when we see crocus

Oh, my gosh, I'm SO happy right now! The talk of spring flowers got me a'googling - and I finally found the English name of flowers we have growing here. My husband knew the name in his language, but I've never been successful before finding the proper name of them, even though I've found images online from Serbia.
When we moved here, not long after my husband had found some of these creeping through someone else's garden through the fence into the alley, and replanted them in our yard - they come up first in the spring and don't last for long, they are very tiny and on thin stems, but the fragrance is out of this world - SO sweet, so fresh!!! I pick bunches of them and just keep sniffing them all day long right under my nose!
Drawback - they spread and are pretty invasive... but don't last long.
lat. Viola odorata; serbian: ljubičica
I should have known they were of the viola family, duh! Dog violets look similar, but don't have the scent.
Of violas, Johnny jump-ups are my fave!
Sweet violets, Bedding Violas and Pansies are all classified as "violas". Sweet Violets descended from the European wild sweet violet, Viola odorata.
