I don't think I blow my horn very much, but today I saved the DAY!
On Tuesday, a couple here in our town went to the local Civic Centre to buy their wedding licence convinced that they could get married there before they headed off to Mexico for their "Destination Wedding". (In order for it to be legal, they have to get married here, as well.) Tomorrow (Friday - they head off with 41 of their family and friends for their week long vacation and "Wedding.") Our Civic Centre no longer has a justice of the peace and provided them with a list of local Wedding Officiants.
Ta - dah! They got in touch with me and I was able to put together a ceremony for them which I performed at the groom's grandparents' house (these grandparents were not able to travel south so this was especially nice for them.) Now I'll do the paperwork and they can fly off to Mexico as planned.
So they are now legally married and can follow through with thier original plans.
Nice job I have! This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Great Brag!!I have a question though...how does this work with passport names. Now that they are married doesn't she have to have her new last name on her passport to travel? Just curious I guess no one will know but them.

Great Job OP! I can only imagine the anxiety they were feeling before you swooped in and saved the day!
I'm not sure if this differs province to province at all, but how it was explained to me when I got married last year is that legally I am allowed to go by either my original last name, my husbands last name or a combination of the two.( i.e hyphened) I didn't take my husband's last name until almost 6 months after we were married because of the work envolved with changing. I still have my passport in my maiden name, I just carry a copy of my marriage certificate in case I need to explain the difference between my driver's license and my passport. I've never had any issues.Last edited by beckie.c; Fri, Apr 26th, 2013 at 10:40 AM. Reason: spelling

You saved the day avon, fantastic job! It must be very rewarding to join two people in matrimony. Did you perform many ceremonies? You are a very special lady: you saved those families from postponing their trip to Mexico or canceling it. Love this story. Thank you for posting.
