Remember those "European" style kitchen cabinets with a "vinyl" laminate finish and light oak full width "pull handles" across the bottom? Well - I'm trying to think of a super cheap way to update them - I don't think paint would work (except on the wood)

Any wonderful ideas, ladies and gents? DIY probably.

Yes, they can be repainted - I've seen it done on tv shows.

    Google for lots of info

Is it a rental or your own home because I would have suggest redoing the doors in mdf and spraying them. It gives a smooth finish. I did mine that way. You can router the edges or leave them sguare.

I would use a spray lacquer, just make sure you let the paint cure for a good amount of time so it lasts.

We have the same ones. I was thinking we'd need to replace all the door fronts.

I was thinking of perhaps gluing a grid on the front and then removing part of the door and replacing it with glass(or mirrors since the space is small) - but then - I'm not one of those guys on TV! I've read in several places that you CAN paint them, but the "Kitchen Cousins" warned against doing it yourself. Maybe I can cut them out and replace with curtains behind the holes.

I was thinking of using some aeroplan points to get a home depot gift card, then use that to buy some new door fronts. I'm not sure how I would get around the whole wood pull part without just replacing it all. Door fronts, if you install them yourself shouldn't be that expensive. Then get some fancy knobs from a rehab store.
