So sad, Abbasgirl...their stairs to the pool deck also has a gate and lock, so if he can get that back French door open (I can barely do it), he's still protected...We do what we can, right? And pray!

thanks for sharing, great information and great site, I'm always worried about my little grandchildren and never take my eyes off them for a second if we're swimming, especially at the lake.
We all need a little sunshine every now and then

Lifeguard dives to rescue 3 yo girl in wave pool
This is the terrifying moment a lifeguard was forced to dive into a South Carolina wave-pool to rescue a three-year-old girl who was beginning to drown.
Shocking footage shows the lifeguard surveying the pool, which is packed full of adults and children enjoying the water and floating around in rubber rings.
The wave function on the pool is switched on and people begin to enjoy jumping and riding the waves.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Swim lessons won't keep your toddler from drowning
My son has almost drowned twice, and both times, it was my fault. He had been frolicking in the shallow end for 45 minutes in both cases. Then I got distracted for a minute, and when I glanced back, he was gone. There were multiple people in the pool with him each time, some within a couple of feet, a few of them relatives—and nobody saw that he had drifted back to where the water deepened and had sunk below the surface. The only reason I noticed was because when I looked for him, he wasn’t there. These two experiences are among the most traumatic of my life—I still have nightmares—and they were pretty scary for him, too. Thankfully, he was fine, at least physically. But the incidents proved to me that drowning kids don’t call for help; they don’t kick or splash. They just sink and quietly disappear. More American kids die today from drowning than from car accidents, making drowning the leading cause of injury death in kids ages 1 to 4. Even when kids survive a near-drowning, as many as 10 percent suffer permanent neurological damage.
My son took group swim lessons after the first incident. But after the second, I signed him up for private lessons. The absolute best way to prevent him from drowning, I surmised, was to ensure that he learned basic swim skills.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Two weekends ago our GS invited his little friend over for a swim in their pool...the Mom also invited herself over, but that's another story. Our DD is very alert whenever he's in the pool even though he's a good swimmer, and when asked, the other mom said that her son's not a very strong swimmer. So there he was bobbing around with a pool noodle, when he somehow let it go and simply sunk to the bottom of the pool!! His mom's yelling, "He's drowning!" for heaven's sake, so our DD lept over the side of the pool and rescued him!!
How does a mom NOT know her son can't swim a single stroke??!!! If she didn't take him to swim classes, well...DUH! Did he pick that up from tv??!!
Needless to say they won't get another invitation back, our DD was so furious!!!
She still can't think how she lept over the chin-high pool edge, fully clothed to rescue him!
Lesson I guess is: don't trust another parent to know what their kids' capabilities are in your pool!!
