It seems you have to have a phone which I do not own to get these rebates.
What is the cheapest - ok cheap, but, good way to get to these rebates?
What do you have to do to claim them?

You have to have a smartphone - either an iPhone or Android phone.
Every week they post rebates on grocery store items.
i.e. $1.00 for Clorox Smart Tube Cleaner
When you purchase the item, you upload your receipt (on your phone) by taking a photo of it (using your phone). Then you wait for it to be approved by CO51.
Eventually, you will have $20 worth of rebates and can request a cheque to be mailed to you.

You can also use Checkout51 on an Ipod touch 4th generation or newer (must have a camera) or Ipad.

So which would be the most economical to purchase? Do you have to pay a monthly fee?

avon, we do ours on my son's Android phone - I don't have a cell.
As for cheapest, depends what's available in your area.

Yep, if you dont need a new cellphone or smartphone, your best bet would be getting an ipod touch. They pick up wifi so there's no monthly fees associated with it at all.

Just quickly looked at Best Buy and the cost of a touch is $300. Not knowing your grocery habits, I'm guess the ROI on it, just using CO51 would be a LONG time. Maybe see if there are any on kijiji.

Agree with Kijiji for ipod touch. My step-dauther was able to purchase a used one on Kijiji this winter for around $35. But as you would be buying used, you would need to ensure that it is one of the correct models (generation) that would work for the app. Not all ipod touches work for this.

The cost of a phone would be high, as you would have the purchase price of the phone (or perhaps a locked-in contract, depending on provider), as well as the cost of having a data plan. If you want a pohone with a data plan for other reasons, then it is great, otherwise, the ROI probably just isn't worth it.
I just got a data plan a few weeks ago, after getting a phone six months ago, but I wanted it for a variety of reasons, and was able to upgrade to a data plan at no extra cost compared to having a calling/texting only plan (for me, only $25/month).

Is the whole plan $25/month, or just the data add on?
I pay $45 right now for unlimited talk, text, and data (Wind Mobile)
Avoncallingu, it may be worth getting a regular cell phone (not a smart phone, and much cheaper) if you don't already have one. Good for road side emergencies

Android tablets are likely cheaper than iPads/iPod 4th Gen as long as it has a camera

My whole plan costs me $25 a month. I'm also with Wind, and so is my step-daughter and dh. We all have the $30/month unlimited province-wide talk, unlimited Canada-wide text and unlimited data. Because we are all with Wind, we also get the Better Together savings, which as there are three plans, equals $15/month, bringing everyone's plan down to $25 each. So for $75 plus tax, we have 3 unlimited talk/text/data plans, all contract free.
Here is the link to their current plan info. They made some changes about 4-6 months ago. My husband had an unlimited talk/text plan for $25/month, but no data from two years ago, so we just switched him two weeks ago.
