With 2 weddings this year, I needed to find a way to save on the presents!!
Here is how I did, buying items from their registry at The Bay, finding only items on sale, trying to combine with extra discounts, and if possible point offers, email offers. I have purchased almost all items at different stores/different days to take most advantage of all of the promotions.
wedding #1
1x Henckels steak knife set, reg 111.99, sale 35% off = 72.79
1x Henckels tomato paring knife, reg 6.99, sale 35% off = 4.54
Used 20,000 points bonus coupon (WUS 50$ I think it was - in May)
Earned a $20 gift card (WUS over $70)
2x Louis Borgello set of 4 glasses, reg 29.99 each , sale 20.09 each
1x Pyrex kit, reg 46.99, sale 40% off = 28.19
1x Henckels tomato knife, reg 56.99, sale 30% off = 39.89
Redeemed $20 gift card off total
Total at regular price (including tax) = $322.37
Total at sale price (including tax) = $210.82 - $20 gift card = $191.46 OOP
Total HBC points earned = 35,000 (worth $4.38 in HBC gift card)
wedding #2
1x KitchenAid coffee grinder, reg 69.99, sale 20% off = 55.99
1x moda shower curtain, reg 49.99, sale 20% off = 39.99
1x throw pillow, reg 80.00, sale 30% off = 56.00
Used $20 coupon off total (from a recent Bay email, WUS $100 on homewares)
1x Distinctly Home mattress pad, reg 59.99, sale 40% off = 35.99
Used 20% off coupon for any 1 registry item (valid until tomorrow June 29) = 28.79
Total at regular price (including tax) = $296.19
Total at sale price (including tax) = $205.95 - $20 coupon = $185.95 OOP
Total HBC points earned = 17,900
Total for 2 weddings:
Regular price = $618.56
Total OOP = $377.41
Points earned = 52,900 (worth $6.61 in HBC gift card)
Lessons learned:
-This stuff is expensive!!
-Thankfully almost everything goes on sale at The Bay, they do lots of email promotions. They have great sales, and allow you to combine sales and promotions with email coupons!!
-Shop early so there is lots to choose from on the registry.
-Can't wait to get married next year so everyone can buy me presents.

I hope they like them, well I guess they will, they chose them!!
hahah thanks. It's fun to shop for presents
My fiance would rather just have cut a cheque for both weddings, but with my smart shopping, I can stretch that money further than they probably would have, so I feel like they are getting more this way!Join Swagbucks to earn free gift cards! Join Swagbucks!

Great job!!! I know when I got married
5 years ago, the Bay also had a great completion plan. Everything that people didn't buy for us we got at 55% off the retail price at the end, if not better. Make sure you put all those really high end items you would love, you have up to one year to buy the stuff off your registry and it worked out great for us.

I would say you are very generous. I usually spend maybe $100 a wedding.

Just lovely! And congrats on your upcoming wedding!
We have a wedding to attend the end of July - haven't checked their registries yet, though... we don't always buy off the registry, either.

WTG! My friends typically spend anywhere between $120-150 per person on a wedding gift (so if there's a couple going they'll pool $300 together for a gift)... my bf and I can't really afford to spend that much and always feel bad going a little bit under, but now you have inspired me to be able to gift generously without going broke! THANK YOU!

Well we are 2 people, so it's not as generous as it first looked I guess!!
Yeah I think that's about the going rate these days 120-150 per person, so if we are 2, we probably would have given a cheque for 300. But with smart shopping, that 300 cash is similar to the 200 of gifts! But part of me wants to give a cheque to compensate for the ''missing'' $100, I will feel bad knowing I actually spent less than what we would have given cash. Not sure if that makes sense. I'm not sure what we are going to do yet! Suggestions???
And definitely great idea to shop like that if you can't afford more, it still makes for a great gift, and looks like you spent more than you did!Join Swagbucks to earn free gift cards! Join Swagbucks!
