Customer service seems to be a thing of the past in most places. It has become maddeningly normal to be faced with a blank stare or a point in a general direction of the store when asking where one might find a particular product. Ask how to use or install a product or ask about its features and you are most often on your own. Even trying to find a sales associate at many places is an ordeal. Of all the places to choose from, which place(s) offer the worst customer service? It could be any place where you are supposed to get 'service'; a retailer, a utility, a service, a restaurant, etc.

I was thinking of Wal-Mart myself. They were the first name that came to mind. It is very difficult to find sales associates to help you out, and even when you do find someone, they often do not have much knowledge of their products. It is a frustrating place to shop.

Any home reno shop..they never seem to have what I want on display and even if I have the part in my hand I'm greeted with blank looks and shrugs..

The worst was at Rona..I had the paint can lid with the recipe visible and they still manged to be unable to repeat the recipe even though I had bought the paint there in the first place.

I have had many similar experiences at home renovation stores, Darth Penguin. It can be a very frustrating experience, especially when you take the time to go 'prepared' with all the information that you 'think' you will need.

I agree with the home reno. For me it's Home Depot. I couldn't find a nut that matched what I needed to replace and I couldn't find anyone to help me. I ended up following around the store the only associate I saw until he was free. It was like half an hour.

Canadian Tire is also pretty bad. Although I find that they have enough staff, they're just useless.

There is no best and no worst customer services. They operate in different scenerios. I think if I had a Bad experience with any one, its not important they treat all of their customers in that way.

    It's a personal responce thing...

When we were buying a car for me, we had decided on my info hunt which car I was intereasted in and went to several local dealerships.

One talked only to Mr P...even when I corrected the rep on trivia on the model...and finally told me, just short of patting me on the head..."If I was lucky Mr P might let me choose the colour!"...

The second dealership treated me in a similar manner even after Mr P told the rep up front that it was MY car..bought by ME and to be registered in MY name.

The third dealership realised I had done the home-work, the car was for me and "No! I wasn't intereasted in the f@@king Colour", I was far more intereasted in the practical details..

    Guess who I/we bought from??

The one with the good customer service, even though it cost more!

I have been fortunate or really lucky, but at the local non-supercentre Walmart I have had great service. At my local Cdn Tire, IGA, Pharmaprix same thing. Now, there are days that you will hit on an employee who is having a bad day for one reason or another, and I always try to let them know that, as I used to work in retail, I can sympathize. This usually gets me in their good graces.

Wow, I would've been so tempted to smack the guy if he treated/talked to me that way.

It's gotta be Tim Hortons. At least the one that I normally go to. They always mess up my order (half french vanilla, half coffee--how hard can it be?), they're loud and obnoxious (at one point they were talking about getting drunk and high at a party) and they are slowwww.

WalMart, Ardene's, Aritzia, Siren's, any place that sells clothing geared to younger people, any fast food joint, The Bay and Sears(because they're so snobby for the amount of crap they sell).
I find retail employees much more pleasant and helpful in bigger cities than smaller ones.
