So, being a newbie couponer and never having had a bad experience before, this just felt ridiculous to me.
I went to customer service today to check out, because as I had a lot of coupons and there were a lot of people in the lines, I didn't want to hold other customers up. The person working the desk was extremely rude, huffing and puffing as she was ringing in my items, after telling me it would be okay to check out there. Then, I had another cashier come, suspend my transaction and move me to Register 12
. This is where the problem started. As I stated, I didn't want to hold the line up, but because I was moved, people began to line up behind me. I had made it abundantly clear that I had coupons and that was why I had originally went to customer service. She proceeded to ring through my items, and then at the end of the transaction, asked me if I had coupons!
I told her yes, I had coupons, which I said at the beginning of my transaction. I was then told that I should have told her this at the beginning of the transaction because now she had to do more work (I felt belittled in front of the other customers that were in line).
My second issue came when a second cashier came up and started to read the coupons with my original employee. I had a coupon that was from the recent P&G Brandsaver newspaper insert that was for $0.75 off ANY crest toothpaste and was told that I could not use it on the toothpaste that was on sale, because it wasn't what was pictured in the coupon. I tried explaining that the actual wording on the coupon stated any toothpaste, meaning that I should be able to use it, and was again, belittled in front of the other customers, being told that I was wrong, and this is what I had to use it for.

In the end, I got:
1x U By Kotex Pads $3.97 - $1.00 off = $2.97
1x Always Infinity $4.98 - FPC = $0.00
1x Pilsbury Toaster Strudel $2.00 - $1.00 = $1.00
4x Mr. Clean Spray $1.25 each - 2x $1 wub 2 = $3.00
1x Kraft Shredded Cheese $5 - $1 = $4.00
1x Old el Paso Taco Kit $4.17 - $1.00 = $3.17
1x Gillette Deoderant $2.50
1x Gillette Body Wash $4.77 - FPC wub Deoderant = $0.00
1x 650 mL Old El Paso Salsa $3.67 - FPC wub Taco kit = $0.00
1x Snuggle 60 load Fabric Softener $3.97 - $1.00 = $2.97
1x 400g Vector $4.98 - FPC = $0.00
6x Dawn Dish Soap (Hand Renewal) $1.00 each - 3x $1.00 wub 2 = $3.00
3x Catelli Smart Pasta $1.27 each - 3x $0.75 off = $1.56
Got a lot of other things too that aren't listed (mostly meat), but my total OOP for this transaction was $24.17 before tax.

Seriously....I know the cashiers don't get the best training sometimes but they should be able to read the word ANY on the coupon and figure out that means ANY.
Sorry you had to deal with this but good deals other than the dumb dumb cashiers being rude. I would call and complain personally. They have no right to be rude.

I used all my Crest coupons, the one you were using on Crest 3D white without any problems at our Walmart. It say ANY Crest. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, don't give up though, your deals will outway all the negative in the end.

What a horrible experience! I started off with bad WM experience, but it has become much better as I've learned a bit more about couponing (and heard some pretty stupid comments from cashiers, so it's starting to not really rile me up anymore).
Everyone is correct, "any" means "any". The picture is irrelevant. It's what the wording the says. If you had a coupon from a dairy association for "any" milk product, and it had a cow picture on it, would she refuse the coupon because you weren't buying a cow?
Everyone is also correct in that the CSM's treatment of you was just wrong. I don't believe that every mistake or attitude requires escalation to head office, in your case, I believe it is warranted. However, you could also try just escalating it to the local manager first. His/Her number will be posted behind the customer service desk, as will the regional manager's.
Finally, I had an awesome cashier once that I thanked (I also called her manager to tell him how awesome this girl was--she's a supervisor now) for a very smooth transaction. Instead of pulling the "I have to go through everything now, you've made my life so much harder because of these coupons" nonsense...
....she did a 'check receipt' thing with her cash.
It pops a preliminary receipt out (without any total) and she was able to go through the ITEMIZED RECEIPT to count totals of items, and check prices. Doing the FPC was sooo easy this way, and so was the B1G1 deals. She just checked them off as she went, and said them out loud, so I was able to follow along too! It seriously took maybe 5 minutes for a HUGE transaction. The lineup didn't even notice. It just looked like a big order.
You will hear a lot of silly things in your adventures, but it will get easier the more you do it! Promise! And it's worth it!!!Last edited by iceblueraven; Wed, Jul 13th, 2011 at 09:56 AM.

Hopefully you will find a good cashier & then everytime, just go to her till. usually customer service likes 15 items or less, so that's why they were probably upset to start with. Sorry you had a bad time at your walmart. I'm the only one in my town that extreme coupons, so they see me coming now & just put their hand out for my coupons lol. Hope that will happen for you in the future. If you are near another walmart, try there. I was able to use mine the other day.

ughh! there's nothing more discouraging then a bad experience checking out! It can really bring me down, but stand your ground. I don't understand why some cashiers are so rude about coupons, it's they're job and if they are working at wal-mart you would think that they would be excited to see how little money they can spend out of their paychecks on great products!
P.S.
You did a great job and got some awesome deals!Last edited by snow_flake51; Wed, Jul 13th, 2011 at 10:54 AM.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that....like everyone has been saying we all have been through that....I had a CSR at walmart tell me she hates coupons...another time the cashier had a question about the coupon and she went to the same CSR....I could see them staring at me with such disgust in their faces...I didn't care...its my money and I will use coupons if I want..they don't pay my bills....I don't care anymore...next time I get the attitude I will tell her off.
I'm really glad you got some awesome deals!!!! Good for you!! It does get easier...the rewards of saving is well worth it!!!
