Recently Walmart has started making me do single transactions for coupons that say one coupon per purchase..... Now it is spreading to Safeway and we need to put a stop to it before all the stores start giving everyone trouble. It causes me physical pain to stand and get things corrected so it has become time to get er dun and fix it. You can respond in this thread or you can click watch on youtube and respond there... that way Walmart and Safeway see it! (I don't get any money for my youtube channel so this isn't about me making a buck here)

This issue will not correct itself... we need to be the catalyst to get it corrected.

I haven't encountered this problem for a while, sorry you seem to be hitting it so often.

i wish all coupon can change their wording into "limit one coupon per item purchased" instead of "limit one coupon per purchase". This way no one can get confuse anymore.

I usually do not have that many identical coupons when I do use them, but I can sympathize with what you are experiencing.
I wonder if the wording can be changed to " one coupon per item purchased " , instead of one per purchase? I agree that the more people that complain about the way some stores are interpreting the word " purchase " to mean " transaction " will help to bring some kind of change sooner. Thanks for doing this.

With Walmart it is coming straight from head office... in the case of Safeway the manager has discretion to turn down coupons... even valid ones used within reasonable limits... in both these cases it is not the cashiers fault. Sometimes higher ups get their panties in a wad for no reason... they get fully reimbursed just like if someone uses a credit card... proof has to be sent in for those as well and a credit card company collects 1.5 to 3% of the credit card sales as a fee.... no joke. We all know the opposite is true for coupons. They get full reimbursement plus a handling fee and times when the coupon value is higher than the purchase price they get the extra.

Safeway in 2010 did 41 billion in sales... if 10% went on credit card it is still 4 billion dollars... at 1.5% handling fee they loose 60 million a year in fees to credit card users... and they give couponers a hard time when they get their money back.... now i know what your thinking... coupon fraud... it happens... so does credit card fraud and fake money. No matter where the funds come from there are bad people out there that will take advantage ... it is a electronic age... they will get caught in time.

try bringing in coupons to show them , one with "per purchase", one with "per transaction", then tell them the difference?

also an effective way ive found is to get them involved trying to figure it out, that usually leads to a supervisor or manager ,then while the supervisor or manager is there just say something like "thats ok ill just go over to -store name- and pricematch it there" that has gotten them to just push my coupons through before.

I did try that at walmart... i got told my coupons were copies because they were printables... pdf printable... i explained that wasn't the case that i used a hp1020 black and white laser printer... then i asked the csm to get a manager... she said she was a manger... so i said a store manger... she came back with the assistant manager who said the very same thing... I let her know i was going from the till where i stood over to the payphone to call head office and she said that was fine because she thought she was in the right. I went over and called and spent forever on the phone. We went over the coupon and the policy... it said manufacture coupon... it had a date on it... it was black and white and allowed to be and it had a Canadian remit address. After going back and forth a few times they called the manager for the entire store and explained it was a valid coupon and that i could use more than one... but it had to be separate transactions. I knew this was as much of a win as i would get in a day. They had me talk to the store manager... he was visibly very irritated that i called head office in the first place. They did allow me to purchase my razors... I knew the rest would have to wait for another day when I could call manufactures and have them contact Walmart's head office themselves. It took forever to get that far and i knew i would deal with it when i was feeling better... then it came up on a Safeway forum that Safeway was doing the exact same thing.... we need to fix this or we will be stuck with causing a problem in the stores doing several transactions at a time... then it spirals and we get blamed for it and VERY strict rules get placed on us as a result of them not doing their jobs correctly in the first place. This NEEDS to get dealt with... not just for the physical pain and financial pain and emotional stress and boatloads of public humiliation it causes... but because if we don't it will be MUCH MUCH harder to coupon in future.

My Walmart is so bad, I rarely go there to use coupons. All printables are photocopies, mailed ones they will read for ever ( I understand that) but if you are buying 2 items and have 2 of the same coupons, the second coupon they will read for ever as well and half the time they will refuse it. Have the same issue at No Frills as well. Last weekend tried using 2 coupons for buying 2 Herbal Essence and was only able to buy 1. Was told only 1 per customer per purchase. I didn't argue just asked can he do another transaction on the second bill but he refused and I didn't get in line again for a different cashier as I had to go somewhere else.
