This aired last night live, but I didn't watch it until this morning.
Well, overall, I must say it was stunning and very well done!
The biggest thing people need to realize is the tv production was based on the original stage production, not on the movie with Julie Andrews. However, all comparisons online seem to be comparing it to the latter...
What a huge undertaking it was regarding staging, production, etc. - amazing that more things didn't go wrong.
As Maria, Carrrie Underwood's singing was absolutely wonderful! She really pulled off magnificent performances throughout. One must remember, though, she is not an actress...
I did not like the choice of performer as the Captain, though (Stephen Moyer)- too 'dark'? No chemistry with Maria...
An amazing perfomance by Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess - both her acting and singing! "Climb Every Mountain" was FAB!

Carrie Underwood did a fantastic job - she is not an actress so for her to do this , live no less was amazing. The whole cast was great!

While reading some history of the Von Trapps last night, Maria and The Captain were actually married for 11 years before the Nazis took over Austria - in the play and movie the take over happens right after they marry.
Here is a great read on what happened to the family after they fled Austria.

Hubby and I watched it last night (Pvr'd it) and it was exceptionally well done; I agree with everything said here...the vocals, the staging...As for the wedding dress, I'm thinking that it was more along the lines of a 'donation', or a cast-off, as were her other clothes...in that setting, with the Nazi invasion of their country, I don't picture her running to a couturier to be fitted for a gown he could well afford. Just my 2 cents; it fit her terribly, which seemed an obvious choice, not an oversight, since every other item of clothing fit everyone so perfectly...
Her voice is simply beautiful!

We watched it again a week ago Sunday - son was over, and he loved it.
Then this past Sunday, we all watched the movie - yes, again - it's glorious!
