My mother was a very giving person. I've seen her clear out her own cupboards and leave herself nothing in order to help people who "needed it more than her."
Unfortunately the world lost a gem when she passed away July 23.
But she was able to donate her eyes to the Eye Bank who were thrilled to receive them.
And also, all the left over food from her funeral - cookies, veggies, fruit - we were able to take to our local Women's Shelter.
It was her 10 year old grandson who heard us talking about the extra food and very matter-of-factly said, "You should take that to the food bank, Auntie." (He and his dad volunteer at their local soup kitchen every other Monday.)
So, I guess, with children and grandchildren who have learned to "give back to the community," she has left a much more enduring donation to our world.
We'll all miss you mum! This thread is currently associated with: Guess

What a generous thing your mom has done.
I have a friend whose son just received a new cornea from a donor...he's only 15.
I think instilling generosity in our young people is a wonderful thing to do....so glad your nephew is following in your mom's footsteps.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Many people hope to make a difference and be remembered when they pass. Your mother will be remembered, and definitely made a huge impact on the lives of many. It sounds like she was a very generous and kind person."Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than You." - Dr. Seuss

so very sorry to have heard about the loss of your mom, avon. You've had a pretty tough go these past few months so I hope things level out for your family. Amazing brag about donating her eyes though. You must feel so proud knowing that she gave the gift of sight to someone--as well as that she raised a family who gives to others. All around great brag! *hugs*

That best portion of a good man's life; his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love. - William Wordsworth
It is so special that your mother could give so much in her life and continue to, even after her passing. My condolences to you and your family. I hope that you an take comfort in the fact that her generous nature will live on through younger generations and their expressions of generosity and kindness!
