27-year-old Oleksandr Tynyanov from the village of Tavriyske, Zaporizhzhya Oblast passed away on May 19, 2017 in Mechnikov Hospital, Dnipro.

Oleksandr served as Junior Sergeant in the 55th Separate Artillery Brigade. He was seriously wounded in the head by an enemy sniper and died after two weeks of coma.

22-year-old Ivan Merchenko died near Kharkiv on May 14, 2017. According to official sources, Ivan committed suicide while he was travelling back to his military unit deployed near Popasna, Luhansk Obl. However, friends, relatives and villagers don’t believe this version, saying Ivan had left his home smiling and in excellent spirits.
Ivan was born July 7, 1995 in Beresk, Volyn Oblast. He served in the 34th Separate Mechanized Brigade

Thousands Turn Out for Bike Day in Kharkiv


The 12th Veloden (Bike Day) took place in Kharkiv today. This year, more than 10,000 people participated in it.

In the morning the bicyclists’ columns began to gather in the different parts of the city. Then all cyclists moved to Svobody (Freedom) Square. The participants were of various professions and ages; the oldest participant was 74-years old, the youngest was 3-years old.

Before starting the race, about 4,000 cyclists lined up and formed the phrase “I love Kharkiv” at Svobody Square.

18-year-old Bohdan Ishutin from Terebovlia, Ternopil Oblast died in the war zone on May 22, 2017. He would have turned 19 on October 11.
Bohdan was seriously wounded in combat and died of his injuries. He served in the 44th Brigade.

Bohdan Ishutin was the youngest in a large family. His mother is a physics teacher. He has two older married sisters who are also teachers. His older brother Viktor is a professional soldier and was a role model for his younger brother. As soon as he turned 18, Bohdan enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
