Avdiivka coke-chemical plant was shelled from multiple rocket launchers. 9 rockets hit the plant, over 40 landed near

Metinvest Group’s Avdiivka Coke Plant was hit by intense shelling on Thursday, May 21. One employee was killed and two others were wounded. Shells damaged the plant’s core production equipment.

This was the heaviest shelling of the plant since the ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons were announced. There were people working in the plant’s shops at the time of the latest attack.
The barrage seriously damaged the plant’s maintenance & repair and railway shops. Administrative and process buildings were also hit. A locomotive and a railway crane sustained direct impacts and were destroyed. Significant damage was also caused to the plant’s railway tracks and the overhead wiring for electric trains. As a result, the plant currently cannot ship finished goods or receive raw materials.
Two of the four high-voltage electricity lines to the plant were disrupted, forcing production to decrease by 50% in Coke Shop #2.
Employees are working to mitigate the results of the attack. The damage to the maintenance & repair shop makes repair work extremely difficult: about 10 shells struck its roof, load-bearing structures, machinery and process equipment. This shop was the plant’s centralized, rapid response unit for repairing and maintaining equipment and making spare parts and changeable components.

Four Aidar battalion servicemen have been wounded in an attack on a roadblock near the village of Rodyna, which is incorporated in the town of Zolote in Luhansk region, head of Luhansk Region Military and Civilian Administration Hennadiy Moskal said on May 26.

Gunmen shoot at army ambulance near Komyshne, kill one soldier

Russian-backed militants shot at an UAZ military ambulance in the area of Stanitsa-Luhansk on Monday, killing one soldier, the press office of Chairman of Luhansk Regional State Administration Gennadiy Moskal has reported.

The attack occurred near the border with Russia on territory controlled by Ukraine, the press service reported.

The ambulance with two soldiers inside was driving from the village of Komyshne to Syze when was hit by gunfire, which killed one soldier (a 46-year-old man) and seriously wounded another. The second soldier is now in a serious condition in hospital.

"Sabotage and reconnaissance groups often penetrate the area from Russian territory,” Moskal said.

“The militants lay mines, which have already blown up two military vehicles, and carry out other sabotage activities. Yesterday they shot at a medical [vehicle], paying no regard to the fact that the car had special [ambulance] markings."

Saeed Druždì Abd Allah (Said Jurdi) won the latest edition of Ukraine Got Talent

From Syria - Originally hailing from Homs, the young student left Damascus only two years ago to pursue a degree in medicine at the Simferopol State University. While he was out there, Jurdi decided to put his vocal talent to use and enter the famous singing competition.

Although Ukrainian isn't his native tongue, Jurdi sang beautifully and passionately in the Ukranian and Russian languages, which both shocked and impressed the show's judges and viewers at home.

Since his first audition, everyone was certain that this young man would go far in the competition. This week, he was crowned the new Ukraine Got Talent winner.

Heavy armour rolls in

A freight train pictured carrying a convoy tanks towards the Ukrainian border looks to escalate tensions between the two sides even further.
The nine tanks arrived in the southern town of Matveev Kurgan on Monday, before being driven along the streets on Tuesday.
The picture, taken on a mobile phone, comes just days after a huge convoy, including rocket launchers, military trucks without licence plates and armoured personnel carriers, was photographed driving along a road near the town.

The arrival of the convoys will no doubt be seen as more aggression from the Russians towards their neighbours, who have been arming Ukraine's separatist rebels for months.
Matveev Kurgan is just 17 miles from the border, and just 72 miles from Donetsk, where some of the heaviest fighting of the 15-month conflict has taken place.

Intense Fighting Across Front

Oleksandr Motuzyanik, a spokesman for the Presidential Administration on the military operation in the south-east, has told reporters at a briefing today that one Ukrainian soldier has been killed and eight wounded over the last 24 hours.

The dead soldier was named by the Aidar volunteer battalion as Yevhen Marchuk from Krivoy Rog, born in 1988. Marchuk, a member of the second Afghan assault company, died yesterday in hospital from shrapnel wounds received when his checkpoint in the village of Rodina, between Zolotoye and separatist-held Pervomaysk, was shelled.

Oleksandr Motuzyanik said that the heaviest fighting overall had been seen around the separatist-held city of Donetsk, with Ukrainian positions in Peski, Avdeyevka and Marinka shelled by Russian-backed forces.

At least four civilians have also been killed overnight.

One woman was killed, Moskal's office reported, in the town of Popasnaya, when a shell struck the basement of her home, in which she was sheltering, in the early hours of this morning.

The ATO Press Centre reported today that Boguslavskoye, on the western outskirts of Popasnaya, had also been attacked last night.

At least three civilians were killed on the south-western outskirts of Gorlovka when a house in the Korolenko suburb was struck by a shell last night. According to the Donetsk regional Prosecutor's Office, the owner of the house, his 11-year-old daughter and another man were killed. Another four were injured, including a 10-year-old boy and a baby. Gorlovka news site 06242.com.ua reported this morning that the baby, aged two, had also died in hospital.

Another civilian was reported wounded in the village of Ozeryanovka, to the south-west of Korolenko.
