Ukraine marks the Ukrainian Volunteer Fighter Day today on 14 March. The date was introduced by the Verkhovna Rada in early 2017.

On 14 March 2014, the first volunteer fighters left Independence Square in Kyiv for the training base in Novi Petrivtsi. The contribution of the first wave of volunteer fighters at the beginning of the war in eastern Ukraine can hardly be overestimated since at that time, not all professional servicemen were ready to defend their homeland.
Volunteer battalions helped conduct mobilization and prepare a professional replacement for volunteer fighters.

WASHINGTON – Canada, the United States, and European Union imposed sweeping sanctions on Friday over Russia‘s actions against Ukraine, including its 2018 attack on Ukrainian ships, annexation of Crimea and activities in eastern Ukraine.
Canada imposed sanctions on 114 people and 15 entities in response to Russia’s military action against the Ukrainian ships, while the European Union sanctioned eight more Russians over the stand-off.

“Canada and its allies are unwavering in our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said.
“Russia’s provocations in the Kerch Strait and its illegal invasion and ongoing occupation of Crimea will not go unchecked.”

Eduard Bershadsky and Vitaliy Liushniak were killed on March 11, 2019 when a grenade exploded in their bunker near the village of Nevelske, Donetsk Oblast (circumstances under investigation).

Eduard was born in 1984 in Kropyvnytsky, Kirovohrad Oblast. He served in the 17th Battalion of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade.

Vitaliy was born in 1996 in Yatran, Kirovohrad Oblast. He served in the 17th Battalion of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade.

HeSerhiy Bychkov died of a heart attack in the war zone on March 6, 2019.

Serhiy was born on September 4, 1972 in Rososha, Vinnytsia Oblast. A military officer, he enlisted on March 18, 2014 and served in the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

Serhiy leaves behind his mother, brother, wife and daughter.

Serhiy Moroz, nom de guerre “Frost”, passed away in hospital on March 13, 2019 after a long fight with cancer.

Serhiy was born on February 9, 1977 in Ivano-Frankivsk. A war veteran, volunteer of medical battalion “Hospitaliery”, member of Pravy Sektor Volunteer Army, driver and paramedic, medical instructor and chaplain. He enlisted in 2014, and was deployed to the front lines in January 2015.

Serhiy leaves behind his grieving wife and 2 sons.

Gone too soon…19-year-old Artur Burlaka was killed in the war zone on March 22, 2019.

Artur was born March 15, 2000 in Ivano-Frankivsk. He was called up for military service in 2018 and signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving in the 108th Battalion of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade.

Artur leaves behind his grieving mother, brother and sister.
