Although Russian mercenaries have reduced gunfire, they continue to increase attacks with heavy artillery and mortars - 9 against Ukrainian positions in Luhansk, Donetsk and Mariupol sectors.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, says that EU is concerned about developments in the Sea of Azov as militarization in the region could lead to destabilization in the Black Sea.

Oleh Fomin, nom de guerre “Foma”, passed away in Lviv Military Hospital on October 26, 2018. Oleh suffered from a severe spinal injury sustained near Olenivka, Donetsk Oblast in August, 2017, and was constantly under treatment in different hospitals.

Oleh was born in Ulianivka, Kirivohrad Oblast on March 26, 1991. He served as gunner in the 22nd Battalion “Kharkiv” of the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, and fought at Shyrokyne, Pavlopil, Chermalyk, Maryinka, etc.

Oleh leaves behind his grieving wife and 2 daughters, 8 and 4 years old.

October 27 marks the anniversary of the Sandarmokh massacre in the Republic of Karelia, Russian Federation.

The solemn commemoration of the Sandarmokh massacre has become one of many tragic historical symbols of Stalin’s Great Terror. Documents of the Soviet secret services refer to this area as “the usual place of execution”.

81 years ago, some 7,000 people were executed in Sandarmokh forest, 60 nationalities and nine religious denominations. Among them, there were 677 Ukrainians, mostly intellectuals - writers, artists, scientists, teachers and historians.

The largest group of prisoners – 1,111 people – were executed from October 27 to November 4, 1937. These mass shootings were timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the so-called October Revolution.

Deportation of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians to Siberia and Kazakhstan in October 1947 code-named Operation West

Seventy-one years ago this week, Stalin deported tens of thousands of Ukrainians to Siberia and Kazakhstan, an action that is often ignored because of Khrushchev’s famous remark that Stalin wanted to deport the Ukrainians but didn’t because there were simply too many of them.

Despite the massive deaths from the Holodomor and World War II, however, there may have been too many Ukrainians for Stalin to have been able to deport all of them; but that didn’t stop the Soviet dictator from deporting tens of thousands. And this Soviet crime too must never be forgotten.

Dmytro Dariy was killed by a sniper bullet near Krymske, Luhansk Oblast on October 28, 2018.

Dmytro was born in Chernivtsi Oblast on October 25, 1971; he resided in the village of Sukhoverkhiv, Chernivtsi Oblast. He was mobilized in August, 2014, fought in the war zone as of October 2014, and enlisted in September 2018. He served in the 8th Battalion of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade. Dmytro leaves behind his grieving mother.

#TeamUkraine, composed of only 15 members, goes home with a total of 20 medals - 7 Gold, 10 Silver and 3 Bronze compared with 14 in the last Games in Toronto, Canada - 8 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze.

Let's not forget that these men and women are veterans of an ongoing war resulting from open Russian aggression on their country. They all deserve our love and respect!

On September 26, 2018, the Supreme Court of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR) declared the religious association of Jehovah’s Witnesses to be “extremist,” effectively banning our activities. Neither the general prosecutor, who initiated the claim against our legal entity, nor the Court consulted with any of the Jehovah’s Witnesses during the proceedings. The banning is the latest development in an escalating pattern of religious oppression against Jehovah’s Witnesses in the region.
The situation of our brothers in certain territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, in eastern Ukraine, has deteriorated since the DPR Supreme Court declared some of our publications to be “extremist” in mid-2017. During that year, police interrogated over 170 Witnesses. Authorities in the regions have also systematically seized Kingdom Halls. As of August 29, 2018, a total of 16 Kingdom Halls have been confiscated.
Despite these attacks on their worship, our brothers and sisters in these territories are continuing to rely on the ‘God of salvation.’—Psalm 18:46.
