I totally agree!
Now about my husband being with me when I shop......our currant costco card is in his name and we want to get me one too, but it just seems that everytime we're there,we just want to get what we need and get out. It would problably only take a few minutes, but always seem to be in a hurry, there always so much that needs to be done when we do go shopping, since it's an hour drive we want to get as much done as we can.
Hope that answers your question.Artificial Colors & Flavours in almost all our food... You should be concerned.Everyone should watch this...

Our walmart stayed open 24 hours a day for a full year and then reverted back to hours of 7am to 11pm. They said that many nights between the hours of 12am - 7am they would make $30 to $40 in sales. That doesn't even pay the cashier. While I would love it to be open 24 hours I do understand the reason they can't do it.

Same here, and Metro isnt open 24hrs for the same reason now. I think Sobeys is, but last time I was there in the middle of the night it was dead too so I can see that ending soon - it used to be much busier, I think the novelty wore off
WM does open 24hrs closer to Christmas though

Our metro and foodland and shoppers are all open 24 hours..From what I was told the metro uses their overnight shelf stockers as cashiers at night. They have 1 cash open with a little bell and when you want to pay you ring the bell and one of the shelf stockers will run over.

I really don't think it would hurt to be honest for them to extend the hours Sat and Sun to 7. They would do well with it. IIRC, they didn't used to be open at all on Sundays back in the day and now its one of their busiest days.
But, they have kept it this way as a way of respecting their employees. Additionally, as mentioned in this thread, people that know Costco which are majority of its members know the operating hours, it would take a few months to gain the volume needed to create value in it and the question then is how much volume do you gain by doing it, vs how much is just from people coming later that would have come earlier. Is it as efficient, etc.
IMO, it would take a good year or more to really see the benefits of it but in the long run it would probably be a good move. The only thing would be the employees and a company that has a reputation of respecting them doesn't want to lose it for two hours on a Sunday. Plus paying them is expensive on a Sunday.

I've worked at Costco for 17 years and we used to stay open till 9pm on Thursday's and Fridays and the rest of the week till 830pm. For the amount of members shopping in the extra half hour on thurs and fri it was a lost for the company( sales vs wages) in turn it meant higher overhead. They changer the hours about 12 years ago.

It's not just the wages though.
It's heating/aircon/lighting and the depresation of the cashs/trolleys etc which add up.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

what about opening an hour or more earlier even a couple days of the week.

Costco sucks! The hours are horrible, the line-ups are huge and I get a way better deal with coupons.

Why does everything have to be open so late these days. Gosh when I was a kid nothign was open on Sundays, not even the grocery store. These people have places to go and families too. I hate how everything is so corporate nowadays. I'm not religious for Sundays or anything, but everyone deserves a break :D

Until the last couple of years, stores were not open here in NS at all on Sundays except for drugstores and corner stores. I feel bad for the folks who work at these places that are now open seven days a week, they really don't get any extra hours I don't think.

There are many things I buy exclusively at Costco. The quality is great and their warranty is terrific...you can't say that about a lot of companies.
On the subject of hours... I'm glad they didn't go down the same route as a lot of other stores, trying to chase down that last consumer dollar at whatever cost. The Superstores here open at 6AM and close at 11PM everyday. IMO, you really can't compare a membership-based store to a regular retailer.

I hate that they close at 8 on weekdays! We drive in to Regina from Moose Jaw (about 40mins) & that would be our last stop if we were going to buy groceries but we can never do the rest of our shopping & get there by then
I am currently looking for coupons for non parishable foods or grocery coupons good until December to help with Christmas food helpers.
If you have any to trade please PM me.
