I have all hardwood too. You would think cleaning hair balls would be easier, but not with my cats. They go to the only rug in my apartment - the one in front of the door and puke on that or if they can't get to that, they find something else on the floor - a scrap of paper, a slipper...anything as long as they don't have to puke on bare hardwood!

About the cleaning up from a carpet/rug..... Disclaimer: this is going to sound kinda disgusting a.k.a. Adam Sandler in Big Daddy BUT...... if you leave it there to dry.... the puke doesn't seep into the carpet and comes off as one whole crust.... don't ask how we figured that out.

My cat Enzo, tend to vomit a lot. It is usually in the middle of the night and always in the 2 rooms with the carpet. Anywhere from 2 - 4 times a week. Is this typical? He is my first cat, so not sure.

I talked to my friend in vet school and she suggested mineral oil and figured it was probably because he grooms himself so much. Plus so cats just get more hairballs.
He *only* has hairballs on the carpet. In his whole life I think he's had one on the lino once. I usually let it dry a little, then use this Bissel fabric and upolstry cleaner thing. It works really well!

I have several cats. Hair balls are preventable. Your cat has digested its own loose fur while grooming itself.
Kitty seems to need more frequent grooming.
Much cheaper to do this than b hairball treatment products.

The rug doctor carpet stain remover spray is the best product I've found for cleaning hairballs. 14-year-old Himalayan here. He eats me alive when I try to comb him.

We've learned to put on slippers for any nightly trips to the bathroom. Nothing like stepping in a wet juicy pile of puke to wake you up! As for cleaning then up, I let them dry up as well. Cleans up so much better. And I also use an old battery operated toothbrush for cleaning. Works great. Sigh.....aren't pets grand? And I agree, dirty diapers are MUCH worse!!!!

Agreed! I'd rather clean hairballs than poop any day! Although with a cat there's that too, but not as bad as baby.

Also thought I should point out that my vet friend said to NEVER try to pull a thread like that out of a cat's mouth, in case it is twisted around their intestines. You don't want to make things worse! Just snip the thread and hope it passes out the other way! In case anyone else ever has this problem!
