My DH and I are foster parents. We agreed to take a 12 year old girl this weekend to give her foster parents a break. When she arrived yesterday she didn't appear too keen on being here. Thought I would give her the choice of hanging out in her room awhile or give her something distracting to do.......cutting out coupons. She chose the later and immediately said, "My mom(biological) watches the "Extreme couponing show." She went and bought plastic pages from the dollar store and she has a binder full. I said, "Like mine" as I pulled mine out. She replied "no not that many." Anyway later that night we needed a baking item for the cookies we decided to bake. We headed over to WM. I went to find a couple more of the "Live Better" magazines. Her face lite up as she said, "Can I take some for my mom?" after I mentioned that they contained lots of coupons. I said, "Sure you can."So to make a long story short ...after heading to church and puttering around in the kitchen today she says to me, "Can we coupon?" lol I am aware that CAS tries to pick foster parents who will be a good fit for the child but didn't expect this!!! I'm grateful that they sent us this one. ( oh and she asked to see my stockpile!)

You should throw in a math question for fun. For eg. show her a flyer and pick an item with a coupon you have. Then say "If I bought 5 of these items and had 2 coupons with $.50 cents off, how much would each item be?" Life lessons can come in many different forms.

We actually have had quite a number of placements as well as the odd respite. Different ones have stayed anywhere from 2 weeks to a year and a half. I love children and run a home daycare as well. My heart just goes out to them especially during holidays.

It takes very open minded and patient people to be foster parents. I applaud you for being foster parents. My husband was put into foster care when he was a young boy. He had some pretty horrible stories to share. I'm glad he turned out to be a kind hearted loving husband though.

Thank you, OP for opening you heart and home to children that are less fortunate. Your brag is perfect for Thanksgiving.
