Interesting to see the difference between the Christmas photos released by heads of state in Ukraine and Russia.
Top photo is Ukraine's president Poroshenko, seems warm and relaxed, with happy people.
Bottom photo is Russia's Putin, pretty grim, same as the people seem.

Ukrainian Christmas was the 6/7; New Year's the 13/14.
What lots of people don't realize it that carolling/celebrating goes on til the Feast of Jordan (Epiphany), Jan. 19.
Ukrainian carols at PM’s residence
Ottawa, Canada – January 12, 2015 - On January 8, Ukrainian-Canadian carollers performed traditional Ukrainian Christmas carols “Koliady” and “Shchedrivky” at the Prime Minister’s residence.
Weathering bone-chilling weather in Ottawa, the carollers arrived at 24 Sussex at 6:00pm and greeted Mrs. Laureen Harper with the traditional Ukrainian Christmas greeting “Khrystos Narodyvsya”, asked “do you accept carollers?” Mrs. Harper invited the group into her home and the carollers sang “Dobriy vechir tobi”. The carollers then performed “Po Vsiomu svitu stala novуna” – “Over all the earth a new event occurred”. This was followed by a traditional Ukrainian Christmas greeting, a “vinshuvannya” recited in English by Mr. Michael Res-h-i-tnyk. (note, SC censored name)
The choir then concluded the performance with “Na sviatiy vechir” – “On Holy Night”, followed by “Shchedryk” – “the Ukrainian Carol of the Bells”, and “Shchedrij vechir, dobrij vechir.”
The carollers concluded by offering their Christmas greetings. Mrs. Harper graciously provided hot chocolate, tea and homemade “rohalyky” to the carollers.
The carolling was organized by the National Office of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
