When I try to post this picture, it keeps appearing sideways. Here is a link to my kitty in the garlic patch, though.

I planted garlic last fall and it's doing well.
I planted red and yellow onion sets....the reds are doing ok, the yellows not so much
I also planted potatoes as an experiment.......I had some organic potatoes that were sprouting so decided to throw them in my community garden.....I went away for 4 1/2 weeks and when I came home they were doing the best of everything I planted lol.......I had seeded beets, carrots and two diff types of kale also but only had one beet and one carrot growing when I got back home, so re-seeded and they are starting to grow now. Planted some green bush beans a few weeks ago and they are growing well.
I've harvested two bags of kale and my first bouquet of sweet peas last night !

-All of my garlic died except one plant.
-Some of the onions are about the size of gulf balls, some a little smaller.
-My celery is almost ready to be harvested. They are about 18" high or so and are taking over my garden.
-Peppers that are just about ready as well.
-Harvest a jalapeno already and it was something else. Rest of them are getting big.
-Harvested cucumbers too.
-Got several batches of basil and a batch of oregano.
-Carrots tops are almost 6" high. Curious to know what is actually underground!Last edited by maggiespice; Thu, Jul 5th, 2018 at 10:15 PM.

our backyard growing started off so very promising this year, we don't have much but we planted SOME things. Enjoyed many salads with baby lettuce picked, a lone baby sized zucchini, some green beans and snow peas BUT things went oddly south and DH has no idea why?
That being said I picked a plethora of fresh basil leaves today and placed them on 6 racks of the dehydrator. The bottom 3 dried very fast, already ground up and placed in adorable small glass bottles with mini corks ( I may include these as part of Xmas ad-ons for gifts )
The tomato plant I bought DH has only produced one single small fruit! ha ha

Can anyone help me identify this insect? I have found many of them in my garden. I want to know if they are friend or foe. Sometimes they cling onto leaves of my plants, while other times they scurry around on the wood boarder of my vegetable gardens. I’m sorry, but it won’t let me upload the picture from my phone. I’ll try again later.

Ok. We just went to spend some time in the back yard and discovered a sudden and large infestation of flying red ants. The are along the tall wooden boarder of one of my vegetable gardens. We had some in the far front corner of our yard and Dh put dry ant poison out for them. Im going to do some research, but I’m looking for suggestions. I’ve already killed most of the flying ants that I found. Still pleanty of regular looking red ants.

We had the first hard frost of the season last night and a lot of things in the garden got zapped.
On the upside, some of my tomatoes are finally starting to ripen!
