First, Happy Father's Day to all celebrating.
There will be some Random Acts of Kindness (RAOKs) for fathers today, I'm sure.
Do you remember your last RAOK?
Did you do something nice for someone?
or
Did someone do something nice for you?

Today, in the grocery store parking lot, a man was returning his cart to the cart corral. I was passing by and he almost hit me with the cart. I ignored it and kept going. He walked quickly back to his car and I thought I saw a plastic bag in the cart. Sure enough, the cart in the parking lot cart corral had a plastic bag.
I ran after him and shouting, Excuse me, did you leave something in the cart? He went to the cart corral and took the plastic bag and said, Thank you. It was his take out tray (large) from the hot food deli section of the store. He was in a hurry and almost left it there. I said, The cart return guys/gals would have found it and taken it to customer service. He said, Thank you so much and drove off.

While this act was very nice of you, I consider it common decency rather than a Random Act of Kindess. This is something everyone should just do, I really dislike where our world is going as far as treating our fellow man. Sad. I strive to be always be kind and mindful of others needs around me, this is how I raised my family to be as well. You go to sleep a lot easier at night and the world is a better place.

Your comments are valid.
He almost hip checked me with his cart. I do not know why I looked over at the empty cart. It could have been me being angry with this guy and leaving the parking lot with that emotion.
Also, memories of working retail, customers would empty their garbage into the carts for employees to dispose of and I thought that was happening in this case.
Do you have an example of a recent RAOK?

I understand the guy was self absorbed and almost took you out. It is so frustrating that this is the norm these days, people rushing and not worrying about anyone but themselves.
I guess my most recent act of kindness would be buying a young aboriginal street person(i think she is a minor prostitute ) 20.00 of bread from the bakery I work at, she comes in often on a Saturday to buy a bagel or croissant. I didn't want to give her money but told her to pick what she wanted and I would buy it for her.She breaks my heart , a beautiful girl with not a lot of hope for a normal life, she is homeless I think. My boss who claims to have deep faith asked me not to do it again because that isn't the type of people he wants in his shop. Sad but true.

The last roak that I received was yesterday.
I am 7months pregnant with twins and we planned on getting new tires for my truck at the end of summer. I had traveled up to Saskatoon for specialist appointments for the twins and I was 1hr away from home when I heard an odd sound. I checked it out and discovered that a strip of rubber on my one tire was suddenly missing and wires were exposed. I stopped at Kal-Tire to see if they could change it for me since I wasn't sure how long CAA would take if I called them. While there we discovered that my spare tire weird wear marks on the sidewall from rubbing while in storage under my truck. The people at Kal-Tire didn't want me driving home with my spare tire on. A different gentleman acted like my father while he was waiting for his own vehicle, which was being serviced. He offered to pay $50 towards the used tire that Kal-Tire wanted to sell me and have me pay the other $50. I didn't know this man, I was touched and cried. Shortly after he went inside the store the manager came out and told me that they don't need to make money off the used tires and they were going to give it to me, put it on my rim, and install it on my truck for free. The manage told me that he has 10 grandchildren and he wanted to make sure that we (twins and I) would arrive home safely. I haven't had things like this happen often to me, but I really appreciated the help. Dh and I will obviously be putting new tires on my truck in the very near future.Help me out with Swagbucks and we can both earn gift cards and PayPal money

There's part of me that believes that what goes around does come around - at least some of the time. And that when it does, sometimes you get more than you gave in more ways than one. So I've tried to be honest and treat people how I'd wish to be treated and I think if karma exists, that I probably have good karma because I notice people being pretty nice to me a lot of times. Even just the little things, I appreciate them and they can make my day!
My biggest RAOK I received was a free dinner. I was eating with one of my sons at an Indian restaurant and when it came time to pay, the waitress told me that it'd been taken care of. An anonymous couple just paid for my meal before they left on a whim because they thought my baby was cute and they enjoyed watching us interact. (That's what the waitress said).
My favourite has to be the guy who shoveled me a path literally as I walked. Chivalry isn't dead! Lol! It felt a bit silly but it was so sweet at the same time.
Still this winter, I gave a lady my shopping cart when she didn't have the $1.00 at the grocery store. Later, she gave me a ride home. Mutual RAOK's there. Yes, I know you're not supposed to get in the car with strangers but I think I have a good intuition. No murders/kidnappings occurred on either side (it was just as "potentially" dangerous for her to offer a ride to a stranger.) Luckily for her, that stranger was me and vice versa...
My biggest recent RAOK was in May when I rescued an orphaned 4-week old raccoon, bottle fed it electrolytes to keep it from dehydrading and spent the day Googling, calling and social networking until I found a licensed wildlife rehabilitation centre willing to take it in.
I could not just leave this guy. I checked on him over and over, no mom, no siblings. He was so tiny and still had the blue in his eyes like newborns do. He was also in the territory of a predatory bird and by a busy road. I find huge feathers and half-eaten rabbits (bigger than he was) all the time where he was laying. I did not WANT to take him but I did not want him to be somebody's lunch either. Or worse, get no lunch for himself and then die that way. Anyway, he is safe now and I'm sure he has no name or a different name now but when he was here for that day, I called him "George Cooney".
I'm no angel but I think most days when I go out, I do something that someone might consider RAOK's but I just think we ought to be nice to each other and when we are, that niceness comes back to us. (Not always from the same person or immediately) but it balances out.
Thanks for starting this thread.Last edited by frugallegemom; Mon, Jun 22nd, 2015 at 08:29 AM.

I remember buying a coffee (well, tea, is what she chose) for the lady standing behind me in line at the coffee shop.
She had her debit card out ready to pay. I simply turned around and asked how her day was, and asked how she took her coffee.
She smiled at me and knew what I was doing, and gave the server her order. Smiled at me again and said thank you, and that it made her dayLast edited by danger_dan; Thu, May 18th, 2017 at 07:37 AM.

A little off topic but just borrowed a book from the library geared towards children about this very topic. Hoping to teach them about this early

I thought of this thread today as DD opened a package from @Crochetlady
Crochetlady is so sweet and thoughtful! She sent DD a big get well package with really nice reusable sticker books, reading books, a Frozen sing-a-long book, Frozen balloons, etc.
She even sent me a lovely card and an adorable homemade kitchen towel (which I adore!).
Such an amazing RAOK from an amazing person!
