#DaveP..... So that bus driver in Halifax who is clearly not a visible minority (just one example), and refuses to accept transgenders and gays and lesbians, and there are many more like him in the country, even amongst young people...what is your thoughts on that re: values, human rights...things that should add to Canada being one of the best places to live?

See it's easy to pick on immigrants, when there is home bred people that have issues with "our values"

Definitely, and as an immigrant myself, I have taken a job from a Canadian (I saw the resumes for the other people my boss interviewed, they had all been here a long time with schooling etc here, on paper they were just as qualified, but my previous experience in a similar role even in another country gave me an edge). That being said, I am sure the other 3 would have done a good job, maybe just take a little longer to settle into the role.

More of a point that cities can be much worse for racism than uneducated small minded people in small towns or countryside

I've seen insitutionalised racism more in big cities in both UK/Eire and Canada..It's more a nebulous "Us vs Them" in large towns/cities, while in smaller towns , it's more personal.

Neither Marie from Marseille nor Xavier from Martinique are considered French enough for the town I live in ...but I am acceptable for some reason even though I watch BBC News, fangirl over Dr Who and play English Heavy Metal loud enough to shake my windows..And my French tends towards an O'level pass..rather than a fluent spiel.

Bingo.....ding ding ding. How many times have you heard people say they are moving because they can't stand those people (read: people that don't look like them). I think when most people that have issues with immigrants complain, their main beef / grudge / xenophobia is with the visible minorities. I mean if you are going to play the "people who's culture / values / ways of life clashes with ours" card....how does "Canadian culture" the same with say

- the Jewish culture
- Eastern European culture (which is different western European culture)
- Aus/ NZ culture
- Spanish culture (e.g. bull fighting)

It's all BS and lets not try and pull a wool over anyone's eyes and call as it is, immigration won't be an issue if it was all majority looking types coming here which a lot do even from the US).

I mean why is Donald Trump gaining ground? It is because he is playing into the hands of the gullible / uneducated / KKK types who like to blame minority looking immigrants.

I think I can happily predict the Bloc will get no seats , ok I already said it before but I just love the thought of it.

No 2nd Liberal, 1 Bloc and 6 Conservatives now.

I got the numbers from CBC Radio a few minutes ago - 3,5,1. They didn't mention the Bloc but I definitely remember the NDP candidate who had to step down because she told someone on twitter or instagram or whatever that their mother should have aborted them with a coat hangar. She was one of the first ones to go.

Edit: And I think CBC Radio was talking only about candidates standing for election, not staffers or others associated with various campaigns.

Sure looks that way. I remember way back in this thread I predicted that with Duceppe that the Bloc would make a comeback and take a chunk out of the NDPs Quebec seats. When I'm wrong, I'm really wrong.

Mulcair has been trying to come across as centrist/moderate - but he's not giving the hardline of what he and the NDP really stand for - socialism, Communism, Marxism, left-left-left.
After all, the NDP is based on the Regina Manifesto (issued by CCF)
