Well the food companies lost the battle a little while ago, and had to put the daily recommendations for salt on the labels.
The food companies recently lost their war with Health Canada and will be forced to put the daily recommendations for the amount of sugar we should eat.
They fought very hard. They were supposed to do this in 2013 but their strong lobbyists won against the government.

Very soon, we will know how much sugar we should be eating in our foods. The soda/pop/cola people are really really scared. They may lose a lot of people. How do they fight back? They are advertising lots of specials in our weekly flyers, so we can keep up with our soda/pop/cola fix.
Don't get me wrong--> I'm a sugar addict too. I will eat my chocolate and my sweets. But now, maybe, just maybe, the new nutrition label will make me think twice.
Will it make you change your mind about the sugar because of the label?

I must be missing something....it's recommended that Canadians consume no more than 100gms of sugar a day, or 20% of their daily food allowance. That won't change, and food labels already tell us how much sugar is in a product. So if we see 25 gms of sugar, we already should realize that we'll be consuming 1/4 of our allowance.
The industry won, actually, in that they don't have to reveal how much sugar they've added to the product and how much is naturally occuring, such as in fruit cups or drinks.
I really don't think as consumers we've won anything...so what am I missing here?

If the new Canadian food label is like the US Food and Drug label, the added sugar will be shown
