Girard claims gold in men's short track 1000m

Short track speed skater Samuel Girard took top spot in the men's 1000 metre event in Pyeongchang, finishing in a time of 1:24.650 in the final.

Girard led for the majority of the race, and a crash involving three other racers left only the Canadian and John-Henry Krueger of the U.S. to battle for top spot. Girard was able to hold off his fellow North American to become the first Canadian to win gold in the 1000 metre event.

Short track speedskater Boutin wins second bronze

The Canadian placed third in the women's 1500 metre short track speed skating event to claim her second bronze of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Kim Boutin also won a bronze in the women's 500 metre event earlier this week

Korean Choi Min-jeong, the same racer who was disqualified in the 500 metres to allow Boutin to take bronze in that event, won gold

    Russian doper

PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA — A Russian athlete who won a bronze medal in curling at the Winter Olympics has failed a preliminary doping test, putting in jeopardy his medal and Russia’s efforts to move past a vast, state-backed cheating scheme that left it nominally barred from the games.

The athlete, Alexander Krushelnytsky, who competed in mixed doubles curling with his wife, is the first athlete from Russia to come under investigation for using a banned substance in Pyeongchang.

Traces of meldonium, a heart medicine that increases blood flow and has been banned from most sports since 2016, were found in a routine urine sample. A second test will be conducted to confirm the finding, according to a statement from an organization representing the Olympic Athletes from Russia

I just watched an interview with the 2 current Canadian Gold medalists. Such a coincidence that 20 years ago the Canadians won Gold the exact same way ( with a tie ) Also one of the two men in that team was the same man who taught the current Gold medalist to drive the bobsled thingy.
    Did I explain that right?
