Wondering if anyone has ever run into problems with their airmiles account. My husband had quite a number, but never used them, was hoping to use for a flight but it would never quite make it (like enough for off peak but traveling at peak!) and I said I should just go in and spend them on gift certificates for stuff we could use. Well, the accounts says zero airmiles.... and he had a LOT. And they weren't suppose to be expiring before now, just five years starting Dec 2011... ANyone else run into this ever?

He said, how exactly do you argue? Call and say 'I had points'? They can just say that your account has no points....???

Wow, that needs to be investigated further. He should check his emails to see if any of them have the number of AM on them...

I got an email from them explaining that the program was changing.
I went and spent as many AMs as I could before the change was made the end of December - and still kept the leftover ones in the "dream" category because I don't shop at the only two places which they were offering the new cash redemption.

When was the last time you used your Airmiles card? If you don't use your card with in 12 months you lose your Airmiles.

Years ago they had a man from Edmonton on the tv news with a consumer reporter because he was making a complaint about his Airmiles being gone.He had enough Airmiles to take his wife and himself on a cruise but he had not used in card in over a year because he had enough Airmiles for what he wanted so he didn't use his card.He never got his Airmiles back.He had to start from scratch.

What/!?!! He hasn't used it in the past year he tells me... I knew this about Aeroplan, when did Airmiles do this? I had a period where it wasn't used and was fine... We were out of the country two years and mine was still fine and I doubt I managed to use it once every 12 months...

I"ll be super pissed if that is the case! He had tonnes and I bugged him to use for certificates not try for a flight since they kept changing those values

It is 24 months inactivity on the account: https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/Splash?splashId=11500082
If that is what happened I'm going to loose it. I've seriously been bugging him to let me use them for certificates for a looong time and we could really use that 'money'.

Rat s the lot of them. Frig. You think you could send a note 'your account hasn't been active....'

I hope you get this sorted out. Some rewards programs will make a one-time good will gesture and reinstate the points/certificates. I had this done once with Sears points and another time with a Best Buy reward zone certificate. It sounds like Airmiles might not be as generous, but you never know unless you try. Good luck!

If you have a Safeway in your city, it would be really easy to use it there once or twice to keep the account active. We have five Aeroplan cards in our family and I always make sure to use them at least one time per year at Rexall to keep them active.

Oh, it would be super easy to use, he just decided to not bother, didn't give me the card or the login info and has generally been a pain in the butt about the airmiles. If I hadn't been bugging him about it, then I wouldn't be bothered, but this has been going on awhile!! We have Metro, just saw Home Hardware has started, Rexall and Esso as well. I jsut mine lots and could easily keep his on me too to keep it active.

I'm hoping they'll do something as it was a huge number (well, I consider it huge!!)

You can just write down his Airmiles number and keep it in your wallet. I sometimes forget my AM card but I always have the number with me...they can type it in manually.

Interesting, didn't realize theycould type it in. Is there any advantage to having more than one card? If we get it resolved, should we just have two cards on one account (You can do that, right?)

For sure you can have more than one card so long as the person lives in the same household.I saw another problem on a consumer report on tv with that people wanted flights from Airmiles and they were collecting for one address but living in different provinces.
