Thanks to the lovely members here at SC, Chris was in possession of five coupons for Head & Shoulders that were in the P&G flyer earlier this month!
So he headed out to the SDM at Lynden Park Mall in Brantford ON yesterday as they had the H&S on sale for $3.99 a bottle for their Grand Opening Sale. When he went last Saturday and saw it, he asked and was told it would be on sale all month. Nonetheless, he went yesterday in case it did end this week.
He picked up five bottles of shampoo, a box of Honey Nut Cheerios (also on sale for Grand Opening), a light bulb and that was it.
He went up to the cashier and the girl rang everything in. Then the confusion started over whether he could use 5 coupons at once. Eventually, everything got straightened out and he was allowed to use them. No big deal there...
Further, he had a coupon that came in our paper, that gave you 4000 Optimum Points if you spent $20.00 or more at that store. He got that too.
Now fast forward to tonight, he finally gets around to putting all the shampoo away and pulls out the SDM receipt and looks at it... He got charged $5.99 for each Head and Shoulders and overcharged on the cereal as well!

So he tried to phone the store and of course, they close at 6:00 pm on Saturdays because they are in the mall. so he has to go out tomorrow morning to try and get it all straightened out again! He is just going to take everything back with him to avoid confusion.
So we should get 1 bottle of H&S for free and four at the sale price and also get the cereal for free as well. All should be okay as the total should still be around $20.00 including the light bulb.
Chris has got to start learning to watch more closely when stuff is rung in or at least check the receipt BEFORE leaving the store!!! He admits that yesterday, he was too busy getting out all his coupons, Optimum Card, Gift Card, coupon for the Bonus Points, etc... Though he did say that he was looking right at the screen on the register when the girl was voiding stuff out and adding his coupons but didn't see the H&S rung up for $5.99, as the girl was moving the screen up and down so much!
Hopefully all will get settled tomorrow when he goes!
To the ones who sent the coupons, Thank You! Surprisingly, all of them arrived in less then one week to make this purchase possible!
**EDIT**
Chris went back to the SDM with his items in hand. He went to the cashier and showed his receipt and told her it should have been $3.99 for the Head&Shoulders and the cereal was wrong too , although he could not remember the sale price and didn't have the Grand Opening flyer anymore. She said no problem and said she would refund the order and ring everything in again.
Chris mentioned to her that the 1 bottle should be free, according to SCOP and she had a brief look at the policy and told him that it only applied if you caught the error in the first place, but she would give it to him anyways. When Chris could not remember the price of the cereal, she had to go to the back to look it up in the old flyer. She came back and did the refund, than started ringing everything in again.
When she got to the cereal, she started doing the price adjustment as $1.99, when Chris mentioned it was SCOP as well. She said "Oh yeah.." and changed it to $0.00.
So everything went smoothly and my credit card was credited for the original total then re-charged at the new total. Chris' Optimum Points were also adjusted in the two transactions.
So everything went good and Chris is happy. We are now stocked with enough shampoo to probably last us the rest of 2012 and beyond, since we already have about 3 or 4 in the cupboard as well!
Thanks to everyone for the comments. A reply is at the end of this thread as well.

I know with some of these registers the price you see on the screen is not always what you end up getting charged. Had it happen at both SDM and at superstore. You now have to both watch the screen and check your bill after it is done or you may get a surprise that is costly.

Chris did not like that part of your comment! He said his brain is fried enough with shopping as it is!!!!!

But oh so true, god forbid someone should program everything right! Of course, I can relate from having our websites.. Chris would change the price in the cart and not on the product page or vice versa! All would be okay until a customer noticed and informed us!

I have learned to check my receipt before leaving the store, too many times we are in a rush and forget to check,..... It will take Chris some time to get it, just make it a habbit to check all receipts before leaving the store... You will soon find it fun to shop and get your items FREE.

I input all my receipts in a spreadsheet to track my spending. So that's how/when I find out about errors! Then I just do returns/price readjustments next time I'm in the store. Which is often, because I shop a lot, haha.

I need to order one of those inflatable squeaky baseball bats for beating up Chris

I'm absolutely anal about reading my receipts before I leave a store. Sometimes it's not so easy to see the screen in some stores if the person in front of you is slow at moving out of the way so you can get your cart & yourself up in view of the screen.
Today I hit No Frills for their sale and when I got to where I could see the screen for my order I immediately told her that something had to have been entered wrong (she was on the 6th item I put on the belt) and my subtotal was nearly $1300!!
She did a double take & realized that instead of putting 12 for the number of chunky soup cans, she put in 1212....
but really - take your time & read your receipts!

wow, if SDM overcharged me by $10 I would definitely notice enough to check the receipt, did he not think it was a bit strange, especially when he only had a few items?

I have noticed price freeze prices don't last as long as the date on the price tag.Did you see the $3.99 price in front of Head and Shoulders shampoo when it was bought?

Yes, I would've noticed as well. However, if DS (32 mths old) is with me, sometimes a curve ball is thrown in my direction, between paying attention to him, keeping track of all my coupons that I have to give & then adjusting to what I'm purchasing as compared to what I'm actually getting & then having to figure out if I'm missing any coupons. Oh & don't forget we have to remember to give the cashiers all of the computer print-outs that we have for bonus pts as well. In the past year, I've had to go back to the store a few times because I had forgotten to give them my print-out for bonus pts.

I usually top up my GC for the approx amount so if its more than topped up to the nearest $5 it would involve me paying cash so I notice

I hope you don't mind me saying, but that is quite a provocative title, when in fact, it was a simple pricing error (along with your son's failure to look at the receipt prior to leaving the store). Save the scamming label for when they really deserve it.
BTW, from experience, I always check receipts before leaving the store...the shelf label would still be present and you'll have less trouble getting a SCOP.

LMAO - cashiers here are famous for scrolling up and down and up and down and up an down - as you try to help them correct the mistakes, the receipt for a couple items often ends up being a few feet long.
