We did not have the 1st kids until 6:45 and the rain started at 8 so I called it a night. We had 15 kids so I think this we be out last year we bother. The houses either side of us have not done Halloween in years so I think the kids just take pity on us. But they do get rewarded with extra treats as we have so few of them.

@ShwaGirl yesterday I saw an afternoon post by fathers with 4-5 year olds about time to go out for treats. Advice was 5:45-6pm for youngest ones as they will tire quickly.
We used to get kids when it was getting dark but occasionally got early bird older kids just before 6pm before they went to bigger surveys. I agree with the lights on signal you are ready for the kids.

I fully understand the rationale for withdrawal from the event, but suggest that folks should try to keep up the effort. It can be slightly tiresome, but keeps everyone involved in the community. With so many seniors lamenting their loneliness and isolation, participation in events like this might be helpful in delaying social separation. Seeing even a few little happy shining faces of my neighbourhood kids just makes the minor effort all worthwhile.
