When I go to the states I spend most of my money on 'snack' food for the kids that we can't get here in Canada. We used to be able to get pretzel Goldfish here but not anymore. We don't get coloured goldfish here either. And the cereal selection down there is awesome too. Last year I bought Eggo waffles in the shape of Lego bricks but I couldn't find them this time. I heard there are no Ketchup chips in the US too. Is that true Rebate Queen? I didn't buy chips when I was there so I didn't notice.
I was going to buy a few cases of pop but when I found out they were going to charge me 10 cents PER CAN for recycling fees, I quickly put them back. I already bring my cans to the recycler and I only get 83 cents per pound!

There are no ketchup chips, at least in the places my mom has lived, my mom lives in NC and I have to send them to her, along with hawkins cheezies and boxes of smarties. Her hubby was shocked when i mentioned ketchup chips, thought they were gross. Till I sent him some then he loved them...

and no ketchup chips i think there is another kind they dont have too that my aunt thought was gross LOL
and in the states they have fruity pebble cereal still! I used to live off of that stuff when I was little it was the flinstones stuff then they got rid of it in canada but the states still has it...

Here in Nova Scotia we've been paying $0.10 per can/bottle for years! Every 12pack of canned Pepsi I buy costs an extra $1.20 just for deposit! They only give me $0.05 back per can when I return them...we've been doing this for years, over 10 years anyways!

I married an american from New York and there's LOTS we don't have here that they have, vice versa! He kept talking about Canadian Bacon and I had NO idea what he meant! I finally found out what it was the other day when McDonald's was advertising a ham breakfast sandwich with a thick round piece of ham! THAT is Canadian bacon, apparently!!!! To me, it was just ham! He'd never had poutine till he moved here 6 years ago and loves it! He also loves Rappie Pie (Rapure) which is an Acadian dish that he'd never heard of before and absolutely LOVES that...he loves "Fricot" too which is another Acadian dish...they have "Salt Potatoes" in Syracuse, NY and I've never heard of them and he keeps saying how delicious they are! I guess everywhere you go you find something different! It's what makes different cultures and nationalities exciting in this world! I'm French, he's Dutch and German What a great mixture! Imagine the cute Heinz 57 we could procreate!

LOL I'm german mostly and I love stollen can only get it at christmas time but its so so good way better then any fruitcake you could ever get. no one else here likes it though

i think with some of the few americans on here we should set up a swap...they send us some oddly canadian stuff and we send them ketchup chips and smarties and chocolate bars they don't have.

petite femme, love your comments of the mixture if you were to have little ones. i say the same about my kids all the time, i refer to them as the united nations kids

my hubby is part filipino/chinese, i am southern russian (near georgia) and jordanian. its funny because they look filipino from the eyes, very dominant gene in them but my youngest son is super white from the russian gene. i had a woman in the walmart near us ask me where i adopted my kids from...i was so angry but realized damn they do not look like me at all. at least i don't have any explaining to do since they look exactly like daddy minus the skin colour

Where I live in the states, we do have ketchup chips, but only certain times of the year they are available. Not sure why. We also have dill pickle flavored chips. They seem to be pretty popular, but I would never be caught dead eating those nasty things.
We don't have the recycling deposit in my state, (Arkansas) but we do have recycling centers where you can take your empty cans. The current rate is .85 per pound, which is the highest it's been in years.

Yeah the pic of the first day of school goes to the 7th, but my son doesn't start until the 5th, soooo no point in entering! LOL I guess tho i should vote for the points LOL I need to cash out my points, I need to take a break from P&P I think - I'm starting to get annoyed with the contests!

I grew up in northern Ontario so poutine was a staple in my diet. Now that I'm in southern Ontario I get a kick out of people just trying to SAY the word. Even though it should be pronounced 'putsin' (according to wikipedia), when I ordered it 2 days ago the lady at the chip stand tried to correct me by saying 'oh, you mean pooteen'.
lol sure, whatever! Even though she couldn't pronounce it, it was still good!

I like getting my diet pepsi on sale here for 2/$4.99. It wouldn't bother me to pay the extra 10 cents/can if I knew I was going to get it back. I hear that in Alberta they can return ANY beverage container and get the money back. I'd be picking up garbage left, right and center here if we had that program. I'd be rich!

does anyone remember ogradys' ogratin potatoe chips from about 20 years ago? they were the best ever, but they dont have them in Canada anymore, I heard they were still around in the states, is that true?
