So, I know this is my fault. I leave my car doors unlocked most of the time because it's easier to get the baby in an out of the car. It also makes it easier for groceries, etc..... I have NEVER had an issue, but clearly there is a first time for everything.

I went to the car yesterday, went to put the diaper bag on the seat , except the seat was covered in stuff... my glove box was open and empty... the seat, floor and drivers side were littered with the contents of my glove box and consoles.... I could not even tell you if anything was missing.

I have about 15 cds in there and they were still there ( i guess no one wants nickelback or gavin degraw cds), but i do belive my car manual is missing.

    What the heck????????

I assume they were looking for a GPS or something they could sell... it feels terrible knowing someone went through my stuff, im kinda bitter, but realize i should have locked the door.

I guess the positive thing about not locking the door is they didnt smash the window! yay!

Something like his happened to me a couple years back. I couldn’t figure what the thief took. Well when I went to have my car estimated for repair (they had forced my lock) The mechanic ask me why my air bag computer was missing…

just had our van broken in to too ... they took a broken pair of sunglasses... (cheep ones at that) and some change pennies mostly... and went through bags and backpacks we had in there too (all that was in them was baby clothes though) the worst thing is they smoked in our van... and my husband is alergic to smoke...

Oh man I feel for you Its such a yucky feeling...

We had our car's small side window broken into and all they took was some change and a pocket knife (which they used to break into other peoples cars with in our underground parking).. that made us move to another building where someone had a key that fit into our car (95 Toyota Corolla) which they used to get into the car, jam up my tape deck of all things and then they put the car into drive and let it roll into a post damaging the front bumper and draining an entire tank of gas . They also stole our hatchet for camping and the cord for our gps which was thankfully not left in the car. Two weeks later someone smashed our other window... so glad I'm moving out of this city in two weeks!!

We had some young kid break into our car, He was really high when he did it and in the middle of gathering the stuff he was gonna take he passed out! I called the RCMP and it took 3 cops and pepper spray to get him out of my car. When they were searching him they found all kinds of drugs on him.

    Aw, sheesh... that's too bad.

But as you say, at least the vehicle wasn't damaged. When mine was broken into the last time, they used a screwdriver or something similar to break out the door lock itself. They didn't take one bloody thing, there was nothing to take!

The first time long ago I had things stolen from a vehicle, the dumb arses took my medical sunglasses (the kind that wrap all the way around because the meds I was on made my eyes too light sensitive) (uh, they don't exactly look kewl...) - and a case of tapes (yes, that long ago) - but the laugh was on them, they must have just snatched and not looked at because the majority of them were just recorded ones, and my taste in music matches no one else's...

Another break in was when I was with my son at a city park - and duh, I just took a little coin purse with cash for the rides, STUPID left my purse under the seat and not in the trunk (don't know if that would have mattered), purse got stolen (lotsa cash, was just at the bank, STUPID) - wallet was taken to the police station with just the cash gone the next day, but I had already cancelled everything.

Sorry to hear your car got broken into. It's a horrible feeling knowing someone went threw all your stuff. I had my car broken into about 4 years ago. They threw a wrench threw my back side window and it then went threw the plastic side paneling on the other side. It was over $2000 dollars damage and all they took was a tire gauge and a $10 pair of sunglasses. People have nothing better to do...

We had our car broken into 15 years ago. The glove compartment and all pockets were looked into. Nothing was missing. It seemed the people were looking for money which we don't keep in the car, not even change. They were looking for drugs or small stuff. None of that stuff in my car. About 10 in the underground were broken into.

Must be the week for this crap. Our truck was broken into on our driveway at night this week. A bunch of misc change in the front seat that we use for last minute school stuff (ie. ice cream day, crafts, donations etc) was taken along with our portable DVD player that was way out of site and hidden. Stupid for us to leave it there, sure. But we thought we lived in a good family friendly neighbourhood where half the time people don't even close their doors when they go to see their neighbours. Apparently not. Now the damage to repair the door is over $500, never mind the DVD player. Happy Father's Day eh?

My biggest issue isn't the stuff - it's the feeling of being violated. For what? To steal some change for your drug habit? Hope the $12 was worth it. We're getting a car alarm and home monitoring installed after this. If it God forbid happens again, we're moving.

Sorry this happened to you. Just know you're not alone.

this is kind of a sad thread! Getting your car broken into is not fun at all. Most people can relate, as unfortunately drugs have a stronger effect than morals nowadays.

My car was 'broken into' - but I must have accidently forgot to lock my doors - and had a GPS stolen (joke's on them, as it didnt even work hahaha I hope they weren't able to sell it after all) and some change. Nickels and pennies at most.. hardly seems worth it, in my opinion....
I also live in a family neighbourhood, and wouldn't have expected that. It worries me to think someone is wandering around checking all the car doors on our street to see if it's open. However, that being said, the DH left his keys in his ignition one night..... and his truck was still there the next day.

Thankfully, other than feeling violated, no one is injured... and they didn't get in my house.
