Hello again-I thought I would create a new thread so that this update wouldn't be lost in the thread. Here is what I posted on facebook just a few minutes ago. I figured it is easy to re post the same update here.
I had my first follow up appointment on Wednesday and everything looks good and he told me when he had me open that he found the reason the rod broke. There was a very small fracture in the fusion of my spine that wasn't visible on xray but big enough to cause movement with my spine that put pressure on the rods and the one rod finally broke. He thinks there is a good chance this is also what caused the pain that I needed spinal injections for and I may not need any more now that my spine is fixed! So the rod breaking was good bc if it hadn't then he wouldn't have found the crack in my spine!
and finding the crack in my spine means he fixed it and I may not have to deal with so much pain once everything is healed! I was so excited at the thought of no more spinal injections that I almost hugged him but I restrained myself. I don't think it would be appropriate. Although for that it may have been ok. I was looking at needing injections possibly for the rest of my life if I couldn't find alternative treatment. But it isn't for sure that the injections are over and done with. One thing I have learned is that a lot of the stuff with my back is guessing. My specialist couldn't say for sure why I needed injections because he didn't know about the crack until now. He is pretty sure that the pain from the crack in my spine is what caused me to need injections but agian it is guessing I think. The other possibility still is that the injections are helping pain that is caused by scar tissue which would mean that I would still need injections but I hope (as he does too) that the pain was from the crack in my spine and it will be over now. the tests available like xrays are only so good and only show so much which leads to a lot of guessing I think. He couldn't see the crack until he had me open during a surgery because the xray didn't show it. I do not think I will be able to tell if I still need injections until the pain from the surgery has subsided because right now that causes pain everywhere and it's impossible to tell what is causing pain. well I feel that I can be hopeful that I can actually possibly heal and have a normal life! I am cautiously optimistic so I do not get too dissapointed if the pain is still there after. well thanks for reading my very long update! thanks also for those of you who have been praying or sending positive vibes and well wishes and what not! This thread is currently associated with: N/APlease take a moment to visit my blog! www.heatherv11.wordpress.com

oh I also got to ask again what the new rods are made of and if I remember correctly they are chrome cobalt I think? anyways they are apparently much much stronger than the titanium rods and much less likely to break. The reason I am just posting stuff today is because I was so extremely worn out after Wednesday's appt that I haven't been on the computer. then Thursday I decided that I wanted to do some stuff outside because it was nice in the afternoon and there is all kinds of stuff outside to be done and I overdid it so much. I only spent a few minutes outside trying to get on the ground and I tried to pull a few weeds. lol yeah I am not ready to do that yet. I need to remind myself that when I do not listen to my limits that I end up taking a step backwards in progress and I see none. If I listen to my limits then I see a lot of progress and I move forward. but I do not seem to learn! it is hard when it is sunny and tempting to go outside. I hate that all I can do is go outside and see all these weeds that need to be pulled and I can't do it. They mock me you know but their day is coming when I can kill them and then I will have the last laugh!

Well, this is very encouraging news! Here's hoping that the spinal injections are a thing of the past for you - then those pesky weeds will NOT STAND A CHANCE! For now - just look at the sky instead of the weeds! So glad to hear everything is well - also When you think you can do a certain thing - cut it in half - then you can probably accomplish it - take this from a long time back pain sufferer! Good Luck, my friend!

Well hopefully that is the reason for the pain and you will be injection free.

How wonderful, the thought of less pain is awsome. We sort of get used to the unique(in your case injections) health issues we each have, but to think, you may have days ahead where you don't have any pain, or much less pain than before is simply awsome. I wish you the best of luck!
