True. I've had loooong waits in emergency with kids over the years when the injury/illness was diagnosed as non-life threatening by the triage nurse. Last year, when I stupidly decided to wait a few days before renewing my blood pressure meds thinking it wouldn't matter, I wound up taking a taxi to the hospital with a heartbeat over 160 and skyrocketing bp (can't remember the numbers now). The triage nurse checked me out then personally escorted me back to get treated. She put me ahead of at least a dozen waiting people, some who had probably waited for hours. Triage works.

From what I understand (& I may well be wrong), part of the problem is that under "Obamacare" the federal govt is overstepping its boundaries (i.e. Harper telling a Premier how to spend health care dollars) & that that was what this challenge was about. That's why Romney's proposal is not quite the same thing. Let's not forget, this is a country where several states have their own military (Feds have to ask for permission from State governors to use their services, which is why things get so messed up when natural disasters happen ). Can you imagine PEI having their own air force, which could be used against another province, should their dippy Premier say something nasty against Anne of Green Gables?

And just who will decide who can afford health insurance ("If you can afford insurance but do not get it, you will be charged a fee"). It's never the wealthy or the poor who take a hit, as always it's the middle class that will have to pay the price. Just as with the Ontario Tax Premium, one doesn't have to pay under a certain income, but even $20 over that, you get dinged. For the last couple of years, my parents (who technically are below the poverty line - depending on who you talk to) have not had to pay tax, but have been hit with a couple hundred dollars worth of health tax.

As always, the devil`s in the details. Not saying they don`t need to overhaul their system, but not sure whether this won`t hurt more folks in the long run.

From what I understand (and I don't claim to be anywhere near an authority) America considers itself to be a union of states. Almost like a bunch of independant nations who have chosen to work together. State rights are sacrosanct, as are individual rights. Federal governments are viewed with distrust and suspicion by many and when the Federal government is telling you and your state what to do, anger, defiance and hostility are often the result.

Edit: Andit, on proofreading I saw my opening sentence was very close to your own. Not intentional, I guess my unconscious mind was just copying you. Bad plagiarist mind! BAD!!

Some in the US don't like "socialized" medicine.
Some are o.k. with Social Security and medicare.
It's an interesting country to visit.

They use to laugh at our money - all the colours.
Now with counterfiting, they are adding colour to their $20s etc. (I tease my US friends about copying Canadians)

So, they may see the benefits of "health care for all" eventually. Thanks Tommy Douglas. http://healthcoalition.ca/main/resou...r-of-medicare/

Last year DH had a slight mishap while in Vegas on convention. Bruised ribs, hospital visit, x-rays, doctor consultation, total 4 hours , the bill that came to the house was $28,000.

They would not even see him until he got confirmation that he had insurance and he put $2500 deposit on the credit card. You could not pay me to live there.

lecale, those are great points - some of us put off seeing the doctor when care is available to us, yet think how much longer people in the US delay....

Oh, and cellulitis is very scary and nothing to fool with. I have recurrent cellulitis, and have to be extremely careful. Going to the ER every eight hours for IVs is no picnic, let alone the pain and the fever - and the fear of it spreading, and sometimes the meds not working quickly enough and having to switch them up! Luckily I haven't had it happen again for several years now.

When I was stuck in the hospital for a week, I realized how some of the nurses were burning out, in MATERNITY! (It was also overflow). One nurse comes in, tells me to sit up and shut up. I was like Excuse me? (I was laughing and then had to take meds) I was shocked. The next nurse comes in and I tell her and she's like "Yeah, she isn't too happy in the profession anymore..." It's sad Especially in a place where you're bring life into the world.

I wouldn't wanna live in the states. My husband is VERY worried because if he has to pay taxes for Obamacare, he told me "I'm giving up my citizenship to the States". That's sad He loves his country but with what's going on and how they are taxing it, it's horrible. My husband does not work because he's here. He still has to file taxes from here as a visitor and when he's a PR, as a PR. It just breaks my heart that he has to decide that since we'd probably go broke just paying taxes there, plus raising a family here.

Sorry, that was slightly off topic but wanted to state that's how it's hurting us.

In any case, I hear Europe has amazing health care! Plus their education is great too (Thanks to SiCKO by Micheal Moore, I watched it a few months ago haha)

I found that the maternity nurses were the worst also. Above average nastiness considering they are not really dealing with sick people just whiney preggos .

When I had my son there was a nurse that was so awful(nasty. bad attitude, rude, uncaring) we had her banned from my room and when I went in for my daughter 9 years later she was still working there. Needless to say we told the head nurse she was to come nowhere near me. lol Hey it's like teachers some are in it because they have a calling and some are in it to get the summers off.

5 cringeworthy GOP reactons to Obamacare ruling

    4. Delegitimizing the Supreme Court
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) simply chose denial. "Just because a couple people on the Supreme Court declare something to be 'constitutional' does not make it so," he proclaimed. However, it actually does.

    More GOP sillyness regarding ACA

But for the Right, a moderate expansion of health coverage and some new insurance regulations are, simply put, the worst things that ever happened. How bad is it? Well imagine that in the midst of the Holocaust, a meteor crashed to earth, destroying the entire planet. And as planet Earth exploded, it opened up a tear in the space-time continuum that swallowed up the entire galaxy. Thursday's ruling was, apparently, almost that bad.

Limbaugh calls "Largest tax increase in world history" and is wrong

Forget the United States,"Obamacare is nothing more than the largest tax increase in the history of the world," he declared.
    This claim is wrong.

While the health care law certainly is, on the whole, a tax increase, it’s not the largest in American history -- and as such -- cannot be the largest in the history of the world. (Luckily, there's enough U.S.-based research that we don't have to explore the tax increases of the Roman Empire, adjusted for inflation.)

Problem is people spew this crap and your average republican uninformed voter runs with it.

Rush Limbaugh needs to just go away.
