Have I mentioned that I despise traffic lately?
Heading to Montreal Friday night the highway was closed at Gananoque and had to detour
    with a million other vehicles.....
    Not impressed...
Last night the traffic was bumper to bumper just after Belleville and ended up taking back roads
to get to the 407... and took it as far as we could.
Mechman we honked when we went by your place.......

The weather was wonderful in Montreal with all the side walk cafes busy busy....
Much of the time was spent in the hospital with my mom... and there is no a/c there.

Her infection is clearing up thank goodness. She cannot afford to lose any more weight.
She is not very happy either... and it is totally understandable.
Before her surgery she was totally independent.
She is no longer... and that is very hard for her to accept.
I never mentioned in here before.... my mom had a stroke right after her surgery.
It was not major, though it took the fight out of my mom.
She still has her brain and she talks. If she speaks too quickly it can be hard to understand.
Her right arm and hand are still in partial paralysis, and her right leg is strong and they are helping her with
her coordination so she can walk again.
It has also affected her stomach and throat. All her food has to be pureed. She cannot drink liquids unless
they are thickened or she could choke to death.
The Drs feel she will will have an almost fully recovery... It will just take time...
My mom has never been a patient person so this is not easy for her to handle either.
On Sat we talked and decided I had better look for an assisted living residence for her.
I wrote up a brief letter notifying the superintendent that as of Sept 30, 2012 my mom will be vacating the
apartment she is in. I made sure the super had it Sunday. It was signed by her and copied and told me
she feels my mom will return home in a few month.. and will hold the apartment for her...
I too am hopeful, though very realistic. We cannot take a chance in the event my mom is not able to
live alone and look after herself....
I can't tell you the anguish and defeat I saw in her face....
I did not let her see any inkling that I was upset. That would not have done her any good.
Today I had to contact the CLSC in Montreal as in order to find a residence we must go though a social worker.
    The fun is only beginning....
I am strong, and will make sure my mom is is the right place.....for her.
    3 months will sail by.
Fortunately my mom is not a pack rat.... still vacating an apartment.......

I hope you had a fabulous Canada Day!

I am heading to NYC in Aug with some girlfriends for a few days which I really need.
The week after we are taking a cruise to Alaska.....
    I need a break....

Thank you for the Santana songs....

I really want seats for this....
Good luck to everyone in their quest for tickets!

    Good Day Folks
Just back from the cottage this afternoon...avoiding traffic was a sun filled weekend...hoping you all had a wonderful Canada Day.
TY for the messages, likes and reps..will try to rep you all tonight.... am heading away sailing tomorrow for a few days.... perhaps I should be reading inst-a-crew for sailing dummies as I am really only used to power boats and kayaks...
Off to get caught up ...
    Cheers

My heart is with you. I fully understand the crushing sadness you must be feeling right now. It is not easy to ensure that our parents are safe & sometimes the best solutions are ones that make us realize that putting their safety & well being first really tugs at our emotions.

I hope your Mom is able to accept this over time. It must be beyond distressing for you all.

This is a very painful time for you, but you know the situation the best and you know what needs to be done...

Your mom is very lucky to have you.... (I'm sure she already knows that...)

Have you ever been at a gathering & found it dull & boring?
Have you ever been the leader of a conga line to get a party roaring?
Have you ever played Parcheesi or maybe Chinese Checkers?
Did your mother ever send you out to buy a jug of milk from Beckers?
Did you ever walk to the next bus stop cause you just got tired of waiting?
& did you ever go to the terrace for a night of roller skating?
Do you remember using foolscap when your teacher gave a test?
& if you had multiple choice style answers, sometimes you had to guess?
Do you remember workbooks & did you use MacMillan spellers?
& did your class ever get interrupted by the boys considered naughty fellers?
Remember double spacing your essay & indenting paragraphs?
Did you ever have to write out lines like “I will not talk in class”?
Remember games at recess like dodge ball & four square?
& after school did you ever play a game of truth or dare?
Remember those NFB movies that were a reprieve from the usual grind?
& did you always do all your homework in the way it was assigned?
Did you ever make paper mache masks or sketch with india ink?
& did your class have a picture of the Queen & a stainless steel sink?
Do they still perform experiments & do they still use Bunsen burners?
Do you ever miss the days when we were eager little learners?

    Thank you Loocie.
    You have touched me deeply...
My tears that I have been suppressing for the last few days are pouring down my face.
I needed to let them out.

    Please look after you!

    Thank you Lee.
My mom has always been a woman of few words unless she is upset.....
She also rarely cries.... keeps her emotions to herself.
I doubt at 85 she will change.... and that is perfectly fine!
