So I am in need of potty training advice. We started potty training our daughter who will be 2 next month a few weeks ago. She will not pee sitting. I know she has to go to the bathroom so I put her on the potty and she won't go until I let her stand and put her pants up. I don't want her sitting on the potty for to long cause I don't want her to get a sore bum. She has been used to peeing standing in her diaper so now I don't know how to break her of this habit. She also is in the habit of telling me right after she pees not before. We have friends who said their daughter was the same way and they would just put her in panties so that when she peed she would hate it dripping down her legs and would then just use the potty. Didn't seem to work for us so any tips you have would be appreciated.

My youngest daughter PT'd herself at 25mo (26mo now).
She started to poo on the potty long before peeing. Once she made a single pee on the potty she was away to the races (and started to use it consistently). The hard part is getting them to make their first poo and first pee on the potty.
The only thing we needed to do was encourage her the firs time she poo'd and peed on the potty, gave her praise when she had success. We reminder her now and again (if she hasn't gone in 2-3 hours), I also tell her she needs to go pee before we go out to the bus stop, or to play on the trampoline). She's done really well, still enjoys being naked in the house (which I'm okay with), and I'm now able to go to the grocery store, classes, etc with her with undies on.

I dunno. Maybe it's counter-intuitive...but have you thought about letting your DD wear her diaper while she is sitting on the potty and letting her pee in the diaper a few times as she sits there so she gets used to sitting down while she pees? Then, gradually stage it so that in the next phase, she's still sitting on the potty but the diaper is loosened until in the last stage, she's not wearing the diaper but sitting on the potty?
Not sure if that would produce more confusion for her or not but maybe it's worth a try.
As for the other piece, my youngest DD did that for awhile. I just didn't master the art of explaining to her what the sensation was before she went pee so she wasn't able to recognize it in time. Maybe try wording it differently or giving her a different example? *shurgs*
Never fear though. Potty training always seems like SUCH a big deal when you're knee deep in it and your entire life seems to revolve around it (LOL), but never fear-- she will get potty trained. It's inevitable.
And maybe she'll be like mine--we worked on and off for 1 and 1/2 years til finally we just gave up. Threw our hands in the air because we tried absolutely everything. So there was nothing left to do but give up. LOL. Several weeks later, my DD mastered the whole flipping thing all by herself.

My DD is finally potty trained at 3.5 years old. We started at 2 years old and it just didn't take. It was like banging our heads agaisn't the wall. lol. We tried every trick we heard about. lol.
Then about 6 months ago she really started to get interested and wanted to go on the potty. Now, she uses her potty as a step to get up to the actual toilet. I guess she just wasn't ready before and wanted to do things on her own terms.
Wishing you all the best, I know how frustrating it can be. Good luck to you both

My second-hand knowledge (from friends and family with potty-training experience) is that seeing the behaviour you want modelled... by you and any older siblings, as well as a toy potty for dollies and stuffed animals, can make a big difference. You could also let her try standing to pee above her potty (although you may want to put her and the potty in the shower first as it'll likely be messy), praising her efforts (assuming she actually tries to go), and then if she can do that, point out how much less messy it would be if she sat down and suggest she try it that way. I remember babysitting a young girl who wouldn't pee in the potty sitting down because she idolized her dad and two older brothers - she wanted to pee "just like them" and insisted on peeing standing up. It was messy, but mercifully she outgrew it after she realized that Dad and older brothers didn't get covered in pee and need changing 7 times a day

Like I said, all of my knowledge is second-hand, so take it with a grain of salt. Good luck to you; I know I'll be there soon enough myself

We gave up for a while too. I just started trying again now that we are in the new house. No luck so far. I tried letting him go around with no diaper but we don't have enough clothes to change him every time he goes. I also don't have enough towels to wipe up the messes. The laundry machines here care 1$ each so that option is out. I tried getting him big boy underwear and that's not helping either. Right now he is wearing the big boy underwear under his diaper so he feels it is uncomfortable but it won't make a mess. I know he hates it because he asks for a diaper change as soon as he pees or poops bit he still won't go in the potty at all. The most annoying part is that he will sit on his potty after taking his pants and diaper off but won't go in it... good luck I hope you have more success than me ( D's is 3 1/2 btw so it is really getting pathetic at this point)

My son is 5 and still isn't completely potty trained.... still can't poop on the potty or toilet (needs to be standing up in a diaper) and he needs a diaper at night too. Mind you, he also has some medical reasons for the pooping, BUT those were just recently diagnosed. No telling how long it will take before I can finally stop buying diapers for good!!
Wish I could offer you some advice, but unfortunately, every child is different. Just stay consistent and positive, I'm sure she will come around when she is ready
And if not, at least encourage her to wipe the seat afterwards if she is going to pee standing up!!

Put her in underwear, and you wont know if that is making a difference in just a few times, give it time. Encourage the potty and or seat on toilet. My son would sit on a potty for an hour or more, watching tv and his bum was fine!!lol Once they are verbally able to tell you when they are doing it or just before, they are ready to start training.
