Nice to know that my turntable still works. Many of my albuns are not in very good condition, but some are in very decent condition. Many of those records were purchased at Sam the Recordman with my hard earned babysitting money & later from my job at Eaton's. I have fond & vivid memories of going downtown & spending ages looking through albums there. It was just a way of life for so many people.

In this lamenting diary entry, I wanted to get downtown to Sam's to buy albums with my Christmas money. I did get my own way during that Christmas holiday & I remember buying Neil Young's Harvet & The Seventh Sojourn by The Moody Blues. All these years later, I still love those albums though listening to them on CD or my computer is far more convenient.

It's so great to remember those times & great friends that shared them with me.

A man and woman were having a quiet, romantic dinner in a fine restaurant.

They were gazing lovingly at each other and holding hands.

Their waitress, taking another order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the man slowly sliding down his chair and under the table, but the woman acted unconcerned.

The waitress watched as the man slid all the way down his chair and out of sight under the table.
Still, the woman appeared calm and unruffled, apparently unaware her dining companion had disappeared.

The waitress went over to the table and said to the woman, "Pardon me, ma'am, but I think your husband just slid under the table."

The woman calmly looked up at her and said, "No, he didn't. He just walked in the door."

Bacon, pork shortage 'now unavoidable,' industry group says

    By Tiffany Hsu September 24, 2012, 11:10 a.m.

Might want to get your fill of ham this year, because "a world shortage of pork and bacon next year is now unavoidable," according to an industry trade group.
Blame the drought conditions that blazed through the corn and soybean crop this year. Less feed led to herds declining across the European Union “at a significant rate,” according to the National Pig Assn. in Britain.
And the trend “is being mirrored around the world,” according to a release (hat tip to the Financial Times).
In the second half of next year, the number of slaughtered pigs could fall 10%, doubling the price of European pork, according to the release.
The trade group urged supermarkets to pay pig farmers a fair price for the meat to help cover the drought-related losses.
In U.S. warehouses, pork supply soared to a record last month, rising 31% to 580.8 million pounds at the end of August from a year earlier, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The surge came as farmers scaled down their herds as feeding the animals became increasingly expensive.

    INDIAN WINTER

It's late Fall, and the Indians on a remote reservation in South Dakota asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild.

Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn't tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared.

But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an idea.

He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked,'Is the coming winter going to be cold?'

'It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,' the meteorologist at the weather service responded.

So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.

A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. 'Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?'

'Yes,' the man at National Weather Service again replied, 'it's going to be a very cold winter.'

The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.

Two weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again. 'Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?'

'Absolutely,' the man replied. 'It's looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we've ever seen.'

'How can you be so sure?' the chief asked.

The weatherman replied, 'The Indians are collecting a load of firewood.'

Thank you all so very much for the condolences on my co-worker, Denis was a nice guy. Psells sitting here thinking about Denis and reading your thoughts just seem to click in how tough it would be work with or train someone and then see their name on the Ontario Firefighters Memorial. You have a very tough job and have my deepest respect.

Thanks KT. My message was intended to be one of solidarity with and condolence to you, so I apologize to everyone if it came across as an appeal for sympathy on my part.

One of life's odd moments - I was looking at one name on the Memorial, trying to remember why it was familiar, and I couldn't bring forward a face to match the name. Then I realized that the year of passing was 1985. The firefighter whose name I was looking at had died of a heart attack at work. He was found alone on the apparatus floor behind the pumper, and could not be resuscitated. I was his replacement, a few months later.
