I was in RCSS today looking over the CZ board when I hear "WOW THIS IS A GOOD ONE" "UGHH THIS ONE SUCKS" so I look over and see the guys picking up the bags for the food bank, which people have donated. Not only were they picking them up but they were going through them I looked and couldnt believe my eyes (and ears). There were actually 2 blackberry phones in a bag (prob not working) and they 2 guys were jumping up and down saying they were gonna keep them for themselves if they worked aswell as some of the "good bags" I later told the manager what I had seen and heard and he promised to look into it personally himself. He was very dissapointed. I myself did not purchase or donate a bag but am wondering if this happens alot. Do our donations actually get to the food bank? From this day forward I will personally bring any donation I may have down to the food bank myself. Just blows me away!!

That is so awful. I volunteer for a food bank and would never ever dream of anything like this. How disappointing and disgusting. I think it's best to volunteer time so it doesn't get misused

This reminds me of a time I was in elementary school. We has a christmas tree outside the school library and kids were encouraged to bring a non perishable food item to put under it and then at the end everything would be donated. Well for some reason I was doing something or other to help out. I think I was putting donations under there with some other students and some teachers. I remember someone had donated Lindt Lindor chocolates. The red box, you know the one thats like what $10 -$15?

Well one of the teachers saw it and actually said something to the words of she was keeping that one for herself! I was shocked. As someone who couldn't afford to have her family donate an item, not even a can of beans I was flabergasted and of course didn't say anything. I don't remember how old I was but I was highly offended too because if anything my mother and 3 siblings were the exact type of family that would need those donations under that tree yet here was someone STEALING them!

Again, will never forget. If I had to take a guess I would say I was between Grade 4-6

Which is why the donation box should be near the customer service desk. What the heck is it doing near the CZ board?? As much as we'd like to believe that everyone's honest, there are a select few who are not.

As above poster said it should be near customer sevice this is where our box is. I also can say that we do have the actual person come in very often to pick up the items in the box. One day we found a bagful of DVD's and other items in the parking lot and we also put them in there.

That is just really sad and dishearting. The best way of knowing if your donation actually gets to the right people is to drop it off at an actually food bank or charitable organization.

My local store has the CZ board right beside CS so it may well have been

Sadly, no they don't all make it to the food banks, and those brown bags stores make up are not worth the cost, you could buy a lot more food (with or without coupons) that would last a family longer than the one meal they provide in those bags.
Personally, I donate right at the food bank, it is on the way home from most of the grocery stores anyway

I'm going to have to agree with this poster. In this day and age it is very very hard to be trusting of people. Many people take advantage.

I myself only drop off my donations to the food pantry in town as opposed to other areas but I don't trust the people working at the Food bank either. Whats to stop them from taking home a box of pasta instead of going to the grocery store on the way home similar to my story of the lindt chocolates. Nothing really. Its the same as when I worked at Mc Donalds and the managers taking food home at the end of the night, sure they could get fired but none of them ever did but it was still stealing. Yes, not nearly as bad as stealing from a food bank but stealing is stealing.

As a child I remember always being jealous at one point or another of another childs toy, even into my teenage years (although it switched to clothes/electronics/accessorys then) but never ever would I of stole it because my mother couldn't afford to buy it for me. I would just stand back and let the jealousy live with me. Thats how it should be for donations. Sure, I would love a free blackberry or a free box of chocolates, but they're not mine to take and if I really really wanted them I can go buy my own.

Just this past summer, I parked at Maxi near the clothes donation bin in the parking lot. There were a couple of kids going through the bin. One of them shouted, "Hey, got myself a pair of sunglasses!!". I never put anything in those bins. Would rather throw them in the garbage.
