I never use cheques anymore. I don't even know where to suggest getting them.

I am with TD and have to pay for cheques to use for rent and a few various things for DS's school. Though when we opened our line of credit with North Shore Credit Union they gave us 10 cheques free. Not that we ever used them (except for direct deposit for my job at the time).

I tried http://www.asap-cheques.com
I found their prices reasonable.

PC financial is really great because they give you free cheques and banking online is really easy with them.
The staff are really friendly everytime I call, I've never had a problem with them at all. As long as you read your agreement with them and you are able to learn to navigate the "self serve" aspect, you're fine. I also don't know the last time I required a teller, I guess it was when I needed a money order which I called them for and they had it delivered to my house for the same price or cheaper than any of the "big banks"

I agree that from a cost/savings perspective, PC is great. For the most part, I've never had issues (I'd recommend them for daily banking...got a little sketchy with the other stuff). I don't bank with them any more, but as I'm moving to somewhere that I'll be shopping at Loblaws again...I may end up opening up another account just for groceries etc.
I've also had a PC mortgage in the past which was an awesome experience.

I have the TD Select service so it's free cheques for me. I just found out today that I get free cheques for the US borderless plan too and they'll come in handy for US transactions. I have more cheques than I can handle now

Its very obvious if you want free, open a pc financial account and transfer $ from your reg bank account to cover your checks. Not hard at all and can even setup automatic transfers in case you forget from your online banking.
