Here's one: If anyone tells you that New Yorkers are rude, don't believe it!! The number of times hubby and I stood on a street looking at signs, or were holding a subway map and a stranger just stopped and asked us if we needed help, I couldn't count the times!!

We bought tickets to the red double decker buses. 3 day pass. You can get on and off them whenever you want and while you are riding, the tour guide points out highlights like Macy's first store and the restaurant from Seinfeld. You see all of New York City (its' not that big) and get a real feel for it. Walk Madison Avenue. That's where we saw Kelsey Grammer and his new woman shopping.

I've only been once, and that was a few years ago (before the 911 memorial was finished) but we went to Rockefeller (didn't get to see a show though, just had a tour and met some Rockettes), saw Hairspray (Broadway is always good, if you're into musicals, that is), Times Square has a lot of neat shops in it that we don't have here. It's too bad you can't see the Statue of Liberty

This post has made me think about visiting NYC during my spring break. We were only there for 3 or 4 days so we didn't get to see much, and I did almost no shopping What hotel are you staying at? I was on a HS trip so we stayed a cheap hotel outside of the city, but we had our own bus to go there and back.

    The 9/11 memorial
Rockefeller Center -- the tree and ice skating on the outdoor rink. You can rent skates. There is also a resto/cafe where you can have a meal/drink while looking out on the skaters.
    South Street Seaport
    Central Park
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) or other museums
    Chinatown
    Times Square
Catch a Broadway show -- you can get theatre tickets at the TIckets Stand at Times Square on the day of the show for something like up to 50% off
The Container Store (various locations) -- love this store! Check out their website before your visit if you have time.

I haven't been back to NY in a while so some of this info may be outdated. But just found this site for you and anyone else planning a visit to NY:

    http://www.nycgo.com/

Will update my post if I think of anything else

    Have fun!

I'd go to Canal Street and look at all the knock-offs. It's fun to get an inexpensive purses and belts.

I thought so too, Kelly..but unless you want to accompany one of those old Chinese women into a basement, the knock-offs on Canal Street are the same ones you can see on side streets in Manhattan.
What I did come across, though, was a guy with two tables set up, piled HIGH with white boxes of jewellry...all $5 each!
Now THAT was fun! Going through them all...I must have picked up 8-10 gorgeous pieces...many of which I gave to our DD for Christmas!

My favourite store over there is Century 21!
I go to the one near the financial district the 9/11 memorial site and OMG I would spend hours there.
Think, huge department store with really, really good deals.
http://www.c21stores.com/ maybe you can even place orders now and have them shipping to your hotel!

I've never been, but it always sounds so amazing!

My nephew and his wife went last summer - coolest thing they did was go to City Hall and got 'remarried' - thought that was neat.
She also bought some very awesome shoes!
