Recipe: Apple and Cream Cheese Dessert

©From the Kitchen of Deep South Dish
Prep time: 10 min |Cook time: 30 min | Yield: About 4 to 6 servings
    Ingredients

    • 4 ounces of cream cheese, softened
    • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
    • 1 package of crescent rolls
    • 1 can of apple pie filling
    • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) of unsalted butter, melted
    • Mixture of cinnamon and sugar*

    Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray an 8" x 8" baking pan with non-stick spray and set aside. Hand whip the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla extract together until well blended.

Unroll the package of crescent rolls and cut into even halves. Pinch together the seams and place one of the halves into the bottom of the baking pan. Spread the cream cheese evenly on top of the dough and top that with the apple pie filling. If you are using a low sugar or sugar free apple pie filling, you'll probably want to add some sugar or brown sugar to the apples. Top with the other half of the dough and pour the melted butter all over. Sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar.

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool long enough to set the filling before cutting.

    ~Cook's Notes~

Variations: Experiment with other pie fillings - cherry and blueberry are good substitutes with a plain sprinkling on top of regular granulated sugar instead of the cinnamon sugar. Try this with fresh peaches too! Mary from our Facebook page uses a cooked filling of 2 cups peaches, 1/2 cup sugar, & a tablespoon cornstarch, rather than a can of pie filling. Thanks Mary! Can double recipe for an oblong pan.

Note: Using fresh apples? Just core, peel and slice and stew them down with a bit of butter for about 15-20 minutes until softened. Let cool slightly before assembling the dessert.

How to make Cinnamon Sugar: Combine 1/2 cup of sugar with 1 heaping tablespoon of cinnamon. Place into an old cleaned spice jar with a shaker top and shake well.

OMG that is so cute. one of my best friends is obsessed with owls. would love this too!

Soooooo Jackson woke up crying at 2am...not sure why, maybe teething, although still no teeth yet *sigh*. I rocked him for like 30 minutes and started to feel nauseous. I put him back to bed with his lullaby glow-worm and he fell back to sleep. I tried to lay in bed and fall back asleep but unfortunately ended up getting sick at 3am. Yuck. I haven't threw up since my wedding day back in 2010. Umm yes that's correct, I threw up on my wedding day....three times at the hair salon. LOL i have no idea why either...nerves I guess? Anyways, feeling okay now, but just having a relaxing day at home mostly on the couch.

Speaking of weddings, pretty dress Pammie!!

I hope this dress is appropriate for a second wedding. ..a couple of people are surprised that I went with an actual wedding dress as opposed to something randomly found in a store. I wanted to get this out of the way though cause I find that the dress sets the tone for the rest of the wedding. And yes, I went with white...I'm as pure as the driven snow...in Toronto! Lol (my mom keeps questioning me about the white dress)

Totally unrelated note...I had a very successful shopping trip at Carters yesterday. I learned that their sizing goes by weight and not age, and that I should be buying Carters brand because it's slimmer than Oshkosh. They were in the midst of winter markdowns and I got a big bag full of stuff for $40ish. So many things for $2.99 (tshirts and onesies). Cords and "yoga pants " ranged from $3.99 - $5.99. I was pleasantly surprised because most of what I bought was lower than sticker price.
    You look stunnung!!

Hiya ladies! Sorry for the absence today...I was lurking but Munchkin and I had a busy day!

I seem to have missed a lot of "action" in here today!

First of all, thank you so much for all of the kind words and words of encouragement for the wedding dress. I really appreciate it. I've been up and down and all around on this wedding action and it's hard to get unbiased opinions on this stuff!

    PUTTING CONDUCTOR HAT ON:
Second, for a while there I wanted to post "Can't we all just get along!" but I was driving and driving and typing on a touch screen phone is not something I plan on even trying to accomplish. I hope that there are no hard feelings and that everyone's on the same page. Nobody's getting kicked off the train for any reason (so long as you follow the train rules posted on the first post ). That being said, I don't want anyone to feel offended/left out/put off by anything that's posted here (photos, comments or other wise). If you have anything that you feel isn't appropriate, please PM me. Not just today, but any time I host a train. I'd like a chance to be able to clear the air and make everyone feel comfortably in a private way, so that things don't spiral and get misunderstood. I know we have all been there....texting/instant messaging/emailing/typed stuff has the advantage of being funny and instantaneous, but it DOESN'T allow for body language, tone of voice etc. So if anyone's ever feeling something's not cool (either something that another rider has said, or the direction a train is going), please PM me and we'll see how we go.

Personally, I enjoy the pictures I see most of the time, but do find it can be hard to find questions and my buddy's answers amongst all of the posts and stuff. Sooo....

    1. I'm going to post the consolidated list of questions in Post 2. Speaking with Jez, we're going to leave a spot on future trains to post such a question list...like a 'master list' so that people can do a 'quick reference' and easier keep track of what questions they've answered or not. Once I have the list posted (going to try to get it done tonight), please a) take a look and let me know if I've missed a question, b) take a minute and make sure you've answered all of the questions. No need to go through and re-answer them all, just a quick perusal will do

    2. Please try to use the 'multi-quote' button whenever possible if you're responding to a lot of posts. This isn't a steadfast 'rule', but it's definitely a handy thing to try and use to make it easier for others to read. Seriously, nobody's going to get offended if you forget or can't get it to work, but it's just a 'nice to have.' If you're not sure how to do this, just ask! It took me about 6 months to figure it out and finally I had to ask the dumb question. We've all learned a few things on these trains (posting pics, using Tapatalk etc).

    TAKING CONDUCTOR HAT OFF.

That's all! Now to sift through 60,000 pages (or 156) to find all of the questions. Hoping I can just find the compiled posts from Mrs. Sunshine and Melissa etc and go from there!

OMG Suz - I was just going back through all of the posts to see the questions and I saw all of the 'Nailed it' pictures...I'm laughing so hard I'm tearing up...DH does NOT see the humour though...I think this is like puns...he doesn't find them as funny as me. I just crack up!!! HAHAHAHA
