Lowes obviously still persists in living in the 50s....tsk, tsk, tsk.....
Anyone who gives one of these to his/her Mom/Wife deserves to
be wearing it upside his/her head!
JMHO, of course....I still prefer sparklies...

Some are good ideas - the raised planter, the fountain/birdbath - for gardening moms; lounge chairs.

I wouldn't be aghast about getting the KitchenAid mixer. Or the popcorn maker, they know I'm a popcorn fanatic.

But, yes, bling is always nice.

What mom doesn't already have a microwave or toaster? And a countertop stove...well. I'm with you, Lynn. I'd find these a little more useful.

Perhaps I'm a minority in this, but even if I were to receive a picture of one, then I could put it in my Lowes picture frame. Or tape it on myself and look at it in my Lowes mirror.

whats the problem with it? lol, my mom would probably prefer one of those over jewellery.

I couldn't care less about appliances though myself, lol.

It persists the image of wife/mom stuck in the kitchen without any other wants, desires and men
    buy into that crap.
Just stay in the kitchen, Honey!
It's ONE thing if she asks for it or if hubby absolutely knows something like a Kitchenaid would
delight her. But a toaster??!! C'mon, Lowes!!!

Really? I would love a new coffee maker or new storage for the stockpile.

I have enough bling and never really wear it anymore.

I totally understand your frustration Lynn, they could have easily advertised for a nice patio set, swing something along those lines too.

I am all agreeing with you too Lynn!

If I ever got a toaster oven or coffee maker for a gift, I would be MAD.
Those sorts of items are household items, not personal items, and should not be given as special occasion gifts unless asked for.

Buy me a bottle of perfume, a gift card to Chapters, some hand picked flowers from my garden or a maid for a day....and keep the toaster.

I understand where you're coming from, but as somebody who LOVES being in the kitchen, I would be so excited to get appliances for gifts. I already have a kitchenaid, but if somebody gave me one of those fancy little convection ovens that can do a rotisserie chicken or a ninja kitchen system I'd be over the moon!

They may be used by everyone in the house and yeah, maybe I'd like more "only me" gifts too, but IMO if you're the right person, they ARE personal items because I love them so much.

Pie filling is expensive, I'm asking for pie filling for Christmas. On the outside that looks like the stupidest last minute gift ever, but to me that looks like you know my heart inside and out. All about perspective when it comes to gifts, really.

My point exactly.....IF your significant other knows that's what YOU want for yourself, then fine. What gets my knickers in a twist is that ads like these are seen by guys as appropriate gifts! Dang, if I want a new toaster, I'll buy myself a new toaster! It's for the house, not me. Now if I was the only one in the house who has toast, and mine was broken, then heck yes! Buy me one! But not when it's for everyone in the house!

I_Forget...couldn't agree more...gifts don't have to be expensive, but they should be from the heart of someone who wants to pamper us a bit...to make us feel like women, not cooks and housekeepers.

    Anyway...each to her own....

I do too..and yes, I love to cook and have asked for various bits of kitchen equiptment for birthday/MD/Christmas pressies..mainly expensive stuff I couldn't justify buying "just because".

I find that too...some of the kitchen eqpt is mine only.

Many years ago Mr P spent several weeks looking for a comic for me to finish my collection. That was one of my Christmas presents. Made my day, knowing that he'd devoted time and energy on such a simple gift, knowing how much it would mean to me and that made it far more valuble than any huge diamond ring which I'd probably never wear.

I find that with jewellry adverts. I really wear any and find the whole "buy her sparklies" makes me feel like a gold-digger.

Maybe things change when you become a mother, I'm not one. I don't know there are many things I'd love to have in their gift guide. Especially I'd love to have that programmable coffee pot.

DH doesn't really buy me kitchen stuff but he knows that I would love to have a Kitchenaid stand mixer* because I love baking so I wouldn't be offended if he gave me one as a gift, in fact I would be very happy

DH wouldn't buy any kitchen stuff without discussing with me actually. He knows I'd want to have a say about functionality/practicality/COLOUR*

*colour is very important for the Kitchenaid stand mixer

My train of thought for the specific store is.. It's Lowe's, if the person buying you a mother's day present goes to a hardware store to do so, you've probably already lost that battle. Better a coffee maker than a bag of nails and checkstand beef jerky, right?
