So we sent along a fairly large cheque to secure my stepsons placement in a new school. Its an acadamy and centered more towards kids with learning difficulties. We have no issue with the school and hopefully his mom can get major gov funding to pay for the tuition (thats looking like a good possibility, yay!)
The annoyance is: they were given the cheque Friday (19th). It is now Tuesday, two days before payday (Thursday) and husband announces at 4pm he does not want hamburg helper for supper, but this close to payday there is slim to nothing else for supper tonight. They have not cashed the cheque yet, so we have a fair bit of money in that account, but I told him we can't touch it lest we mess up kidlets chances for this school. If it were to go through tonight and bounced, it would be another 5 mail days before another cheque could get to them.
The mild suck is that stepsons mom had the cheque for a week before handing it along to the school (but she could have been busy, had to make an appointment to register him etc.)
So we have money we can't touch because we have no idea when the cheque will be cashed, and husband pulls a cranky and veto'd pretty much the only option for supper tonight.

I'd make your own supper and let him go hungry. Surely he knows that the money in your account is only waiting to be withdrawn. Eat what you have and ignore his selfish tummy grumbling. If you're making supper, then he does not have veto power imo. If he's making supper, then let's see how creative he can be with what you already have.

I would make the hamburger helper and give him some of ground beef & tell him to cook & make his own meal. I do that with hubby and he usually makes a burger with sliced bread

My thoughts exactly! You may love the boy like your own, but it is still HIS son, and I'm sure you're busting your balls to help pay his way into a good school and coupon to save a bit of money to live comfortably, he needs to put on his big boy pants and realize that his small sacrifice in having crappy hamburger helper tonight will have a huge positive influence on HIS child's life!

Best for hubby to learn you can't control when a person cashes a cheque you have given them-just consider it gone and I think they have 3-6 months to cash it-can't remember how long. He needs to be able to live within his money that hasn't been spoken for-when they cash the cheque should really be irrelevant IMHO.
