personally i smoked a lot of grass, and since the info came out recently about how
this is not a good idea for one's brain before one is 25 --- we now know i did way
before the age of 25.
but i think it is silly for grass to not be legal, although i have not smoked for
(oh crap i now age myself) 20 ish years i guess, it does seem to be a great
idea and help for so many people medically == perhaps i could qualify

I was just reading up about his remarks - and how very sad it is that he takes this stand to legalize, and considers himself 'evolved'.
Gee, could he maybe release some 'real' policies in his platform?

madchives, marijuana prescribed for medicinal purposes is available now, that won't change.

Well, I will admit that when I was a teen that I dabbled with some of these things. Not a lot, not my thing, but I did try it.
I grew up around it, it was a common thing at parties and stuff, plus my dad and his wife were "wake and bakes", so I know all about it.
Now, having smoked it, I know how it made me feel. Although it did not make me feel similar to drunk, it did impair me in a manner which is similar to being drunk.
That being said, and with the information known about the effects it has on developing brains and such, I think it is ridiculous to legalize it.
We have enough issues with drunk driving.
When you legalize something, you remove the stigma that it is dangerous, which will in turn probably increase the consumption of the substance.
I for one would be very angry if it was legal and there were people able to walk around and smoke a joint. It is not like smoking a cigarette. If people want to go get high, then that is not my business. Having it illegal keeps it hidden in peoples houses....instead of them walking down the street toking in front of my kids.
While I agree that having it available for medicinal purposes is a necessity, legalizing it for everyone is just a stupid idea.
Do we not already have enough social issues, that we need to open up the door to a bunch more?Last edited by i_forget; Fri, Jul 26th, 2013 at 10:05 AM.

IT might surprise some, but I have never used any drugs. That said, it is a sad state of the country, when to appease young voters, this gentleman dangles harmful policy like this, when he really should be openly speaking to them about the forthcoming babyboomer generation flooding the social services programs.
Personally, I don't care if weed is legal, but at least make sure the users of it know that it makes you stupid, because excessive use of that stuff does. There is this myth that it is good for you.

Like vesper I haven't smoked pot so cannot compare how it makes you feel compared to say, beer, but I am not for legalizing it. Decriminalizing yes, but legal no, that being said I think they need to do something about alcohol. Not sure what they can do about it but I have seen too many lives ended by it.

eta - medical pot is another issue though, all for thatLast edited by Patty Smyth; Mon, Jul 29th, 2013 at 05:10 PM. Reason: eta

I agree about the alcohol. Pot smokers are rarely aggressive and rarely combative. At worse, they are a nuisance at times.
Drinkers however, some can be very aggressive, put others at risk, and ruin a lot of lives.
I hate to see anything banned (Libertarian
) but I think the idea of being more aggressive holding those kinds of boozers accountable is a good start. Why not sue drinkers who cause harm?

Honestly, I feel like the sentences for possessing marijuana are way too harsh. People can drink, drive and kill someone and they get less than 5 years for doing so. (From personal experience) I'm assuming decriminlization means that if you are found to possess marijuana, you won't be put in jail for 20 years?

I don't really have an opinion either way on legalizing marijuana. Personally, I feel that alcohol is way more dangerous than marijuana - it kills far more people and ruins far more lives(mainly drunk driving) than anything else.

where I am developing a rather interesting opinion about this subject, at least for those who know me rather well, I will say... look at other countries... Australia for one...... and at areas of the states. , and at the poilices of other countries.... and see the changes others have made. personally, weather it is leagal or not.... it is all about choices..... And while I have a very green thumb.... I will not be adding it to my harvest in my garden.
