Whether or not you agreed with his politics, the man worked hard for Canada. My thoughts go out to his family

Sad that he didn't get to enjoy his retirement from public life.

What a shock, three weeks after he resigned as minister.
RIP, Mr. Flaherty, thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Mr. Flaherty’s family issued a statement to the media Thursday afternoon.
“Christine Elliott and her triplet sons, John, Galen and Quinn would like to make Canadians aware that her beloved husband and father passed away peacefully today in Ottawa,” it said. “We appreciate that he was so well supported in his public life by Canadians from coast to coast to coast and by his international colleagues. The family asks for privacy at this time.”

I wonder if they will release a cause of death. His skin condition was not life threatening except to the elderly in some cases but he was only 64.

So unfortunate.
When we returned from Florida, we learned that our 37-yr old city councillor for our ward dropped dead of a heart attack in Florida! He reminded me so much of Gov Christie....same pleasant features, and unfortunately the same body. He's already had a minor (?!) stroke, and had begun to lose weight, but....too little too late, poor man.
He was in Florida to drive his parents home.
He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.
We both voted for him: a new, YOUNG face amidst all the 'old, rusted-out geezers still perched in their chairs'...so terribly sad..

Just watched Flaherty's sister and his wife and sons give their comments at the live funeral coverage, about lost it many times, what amazing young men he and his wife raised.
