It has been 8 months now since I decided to cut off my cable television and go to a digital OTA outdoor antenna. I figure that I have saved approximately $120/month plus taxes. I know to some that sounds like a lot of money for cable, but by the time you rent the digital hi def converters for each television and pay for the "extras", that it what our actual costs were. We decided last summer to give the antenna a try and get Netflix. What a great decision that turned out to be! With the almost $1000 in savings, we have been able to pay down credit cards and along with everyone's help and support here we have been able to collect quite the stockpile now. We still have a while to go in order to reach the goal of "debt free" but we have been able to loosen the belt a couple of notches and are on our way. Thank you all SCr's!

Same here. I've been free of Rogers for over a year now. I use OTA and xbmc for all my needs.

Wow, that was very expensive cable! We just have very basic cable, but bundled with internet, it's a very decent cost.
Watch most of my tv online, anyway.

How do you watch current tv shows on it that aren't on netflix? We have netflix and love it but I want to get rid of cable. There are only a couple shows we watch that are on cable no not netflix.

This is just one of the many websites that I used when I first got started with Digital Antenna. The equipment is fairly inexpensive to buy. (Shouldn't cost more than $100). I found my antenna on Kijiji.ca for $20 and I receive channels from as far away as 80 Km. I get up to 40 channels an any given day. Most are high definition and of better quality than cable because OTA is uncompressed. I get all the large networks and do not miss any shows that I watched on cable. I don't feel like I'm missing anything except the large cable bill every month. The equipment can be bought at most electronic stores. I have found that Factory Direct has the best prices.

I too cancelled my cable last summer....they wouldn't give me a good enough deal with or without my internet..so I cancelled their internet too and went to Teksavvy for internet and no cable...my cousin gave me their netflix password and set me up so I can still watch CP24...and I have about 5 channels with a man made at home antenna (old cable cord peeled back), the rest I just watch online

    Great savings.
We have done the same thing. We got rid of cable two years ago. My fiancé is a computer tech so he bought computer parts and built a computer as our media PC connected to our TV. We can watch anything whenever and we have live streams we watch for the shows we need to see (big brother, sons of anarchy). We've saved a vast amount by doing this.

The cost is outrageous over $100 a month
