I see some benefit, esp. for seniors who only have the energy to make it to one store a day. they can easily pick up their prescriptions and a banana or two if they need to without having to go to another store. as long as the mark up isn't 5x what you'd pay in a grocery store.

I'm hoping this brings their prices on par with Loblaws chain stores, and that it'll see price matching coming in the future.

I'd love to see price matching, but I'm thinking with the Optimum program it won't happen - either they'd have to change it so that you'll need more points for a smaller payout (just for example - 300,000 points for $100 off), or make it like PC Plus where only select items will earn points.
Also, I believe it's only RCSS and No Frills that PM? Or does Loblaws PM too?

Either way, one can still hope for PMing at Shoppers!

The store I go never has managers stickers/clearout on food, they move stuff fairly well. SDM has been increasing the amount of non beauty they sell because it does sell quite well

Last year, sales of food and convenience items totalled $1 billion or about 10 per cent of Shoppers' overall sales. In comparison, Loblaws annual food sales totalled about $24 billion.
If you think of how much you pay for groceries at any Loblaws store (this inc No Frills, RCSS etc), $1 billion is actually quite a lot for SDM given their selection

1 out of the 3 shoppers in my area sell produce, per packaged salads and foods. Potatoes, apples, carrots, bananas, fruit cups, fancy cheese etc. they have been selling this stuff for at least 2 yrs. Would love to start seeing a bigger selection for sure.

I have some enthusiasm for the concept of click and collect at Shoppers but:
-I envision the poor postal office being surrounded by a wall of green PC bins holding orders for pickup-customers will have to have a long arm to deposit their mail in the slot through the bin wall!
-can only see the program working for specialty dry grocery/packaged goods and Joe Fresh clothing orders (let's face it, online seems to carry all the items and JF stores seem to be subject to regional manager's ideas of what stores can stock-would love to know who chooses to buy mainstream magazine pages to show stock you cannot buy in stores!).
The local store would not have room to chill meats or other cold items. As it is, the stores are run rather lean in terms of staff except on major merchandising stock days. The plaza of the closest store is also home to a buffet resto, and Food Basics in same strip. Across road is the Fortinos store.
There are several condos/retirement homes within 10 minutes' walk or drive so the plaza is a popular spot.

I believe that in the not to distance future SDM will probably be doing PC PLus points instead of Shoppers points just a thought

I think they'll at least keep the Optimum until the current 2016 end date. After that...tough to say.

If HQ ever thinks to run both loyalty programs in a transition period, I hope one checkout will be for PC Plus and second checkout for Optimum so cashiers will have the one set of program rules to remember on shift.
