I know very little about BBQ's. I want to get DH a BBQ for fathers day as we just moved into our house and he hasn't gotten one yet. And I wanted to get something nice as we are expecting our first baby, so I wanted to surprise him We don't need anything expensive. Just a nice small BBQ. I can't afford too much so I'm looking at flyers for deals, but I have no concept of what is good, etc. Any advice on where to go, what to look for? Deals this weekend?

absolutely check out Canadian Tire this weekend. lots of sale items, and lots of selection to choose from.
Most home and Garden places will have BBQs as well.

A cheap BBQ will most likely not last you very long. When I bought my first one, it cost me $250. I got 2 years out of it because it was not made out of a very heat resistant material and it ended up getting a nice big hole in the bottom of the cook box. I then went out and spent $600 on a decent one, and 6 years later it is still going strong, looking good and not had an issue with it. I got mine at Lowes.

We also paid a little more same experience cheaper ones were not worth it. I purchased mine through Lowe's as they offer free assembly and delivery to my area was quite reasonable. I have built a BBQ once and never again will, it is well worth it to have the store build the BBQ, never will see so many little pieces.

For me the big thing became I wanted a brand I had heard of before, I dislike the fact that every year these stores comes out with an exclusive brand but the next year they have moved on too a new brand and the old brand is just gone. I wanted a brand where if something happened down the road I could contact them or get replacement parts. I was willing to pay a little more to get a brand I had heard of before and I knew had a reputation and a history so we personally went with Charbroil which was on sale for 15% plus I had a $75 coupon, as well 2 weeks after I purchased it went on sale for 20% off contacted Lowe's and they credited me the difference.

We've always gotten the most basic ones, and they've served us just fine.
No need for side burners and other bells and whistles, just something good to cook on.

Canadian Tire seems to have a good range -

I was looking at that one at Canadian Tire as well. Superstore is no tax this weekend and I was wondering if they were carrying any. Was going to check on that tomorrow and see...

Canadian Tire often has sales. I bought mine at Home Depot approximately 4-5 years ago. It's a Broil Mate and I paid around $180.00 on sale before tax (regular $200.00) Mine isn't huge, satisfies me and I've had no issues with it. I believe this brand is made in Canada.

We ended up with a bbq with a side burner because the price was right, but in all honesty it's not a necessary thing, I can count on one hand how many times I've used it. It's handy if you lose power, but otherwise kind of a waste. A smaller grill will probably serve your family better and will cost less. One handy tool that I have is a grill basket or a grilling wok, put your veggies in there (onions and mushrooms, corn, etc.) while you're grilling meat on the other side. They often go on sale toward the end of the season.

I've never had one get a hole in it, but some are more sturdy than others.

We got ours from Canadian tire, but at the end of the season so I'm not sure of their reg prices. I would check out RCSS as it's no tax weekend!

Great that you found one. My BBQ is from RCSS as well. I never had any problems with it.
