I totally agree, that is the best way to save, and I know what you mean about being boring. But sometimes that's what we have to do to make ends meet.

I know at times people may be forced to get a pay day advance loan from companies like money mart. where you write a post dated check to the money mart company on your next payday. The thing that most people do not know is that it is possible to pay the money back before the date you wrote on the check. The company charges you interest daily for using its money. So you can buy back your post dated check before they cash it. Therefore you only pay the interest for the few days you needed the cash.

Stay home and play with your baby instead of going shopping or play at bars
fiting brand clothes in departmentstores and then buy from site stores or online store which offer clothes from the same facory but no brand on it even though same quality, but for us, never mind if there is a brand trade mark

You can get wicked deals on Craigslist. Many times people are selling something brand new for a fraction of the cost. Beware, though. You have to know your prices. Not everything on CL is a good deal.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that sometimes you can get freebies on Craigslist. Just make sure you act quickly!

Usually you can find non Christmas Packaged Candy at 50% off or more.
And/or other clearance items that can be saved until the day.

Keep containers like formula cans, coffee cans, empty Cascade dishwasher actionpacks containers...they work great for containers little things around the house instead of buying containers. For example:

Empty Cascade Dishwasher container: Took off the labels, glued some cute pictures on it over the glue and used it to store my sons wooden blocks. They came in a canvas bag that they never fit in to. Free solution and it's cute!

Empty Formula cans: Turned some into piggy banks but glueing scrapbooking paper over the label and decorating it up, cut a hole in the lid for the change to go in and voila! Did the same with Nestle Tea canisters! They did have a free label created on their site teaching you how to do this!

-turned empty formula cans into containers for baking goods like skim milk powder, icing sugar, chocolate chips. I simply covered to outside label with white paper and then wrote what was in the can. Easy to reuse, simply scratch out and write the new item down!

-used empty coffee cans to hold all my sink scrubbies and brushes
-used empty coffee cans for screws etc in hubbys work room
-used empty candy container (the square ones that bulk candy comes in from Costco) to store ribbon


I now look at every container and think...hmmm what can I reuse that for? I no longer run to the store when I need a storage solution! I create one!

Unplug your appliances when not in use - they still drain energy when turned off!

Invest in reusable batteries - Costco now carries a brand, enloop, that charge in 1 hour and hold their charge up to 1 year until used. Saves money AND helps the environment - batteries are nasty in the landfill! What a waste, too!

Use sites like freecycle (you can google it) where you can give away things and receive things from people in your community that would have ended up in the garbage!
