To everyone here at Smart Canucks, have a joyful Christmas filled with love and happiness. Lots of turkey and prezzies! Dont sweat the small stuff, its not Worth it. If you are receiving family at Christmas, dont stress out. No one cares if the napkins or plates match! All they care about is if the food tastes good! If you are invited somewhere for Christmas dinner, be gracious and dont complain if the potatoes are cold or the gravy is lumpy! lol Take time to enjoy yourself no matter what you are doing.

British & Commonwealth Forces
Every Christmas, Dutch children place candles on the graves of the 1,355 Canadian soldiers buried at Holten.
The Netherlands fell to the Germans in May 1940 and was not re-entered by Allied forces until September 1944.
The great majority of those buried in Holten Canadian War Cemetery died during the last stages of the war in Holland, during the advance of the Canadian 2nd Corps into northern Germany, and across the Ems in April and the first days of May 1945. After the end of hostilities their remains were brought together into this cemetery.
Holten Canadian War Cemetery contains 1,393 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War.

The Unknown Ukrainian Carol that everyone knows
The enchanting music that from the pen of Peter J. Wilhousky became known to the world as “Carol of the Bells” was composed by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1904 based on a Ukrainian folk song. Peter J. Wilhousky made his arrangement following a performance of the original song by Alexander Koshetz’s Ukrainian National Chorus at Carnegie Hall on October 5, 1921. The tune became extremely popular and has been arranged for and covered by many different genres
The world-known lyrics of Wilhousky speak about the ringing of bells that call to throw cares away. The original lyrics based on the Ukrainian folk song “Schedryk” are much less known. Though they are based on the same melody, the lyrics of the two songs share nothing in common.
A New Year Carol
The lyrics speak about a swallow that flew into a master’s household and started twittering to him about the increase of his livestock - to proclaim the plentiful year that the family will have. The song's title is derived from the Ukrainian word "shchedryj," which means "bountiful."
A little swallow flew [into the household]
and started to twitter,
to summon the master:
"Come out, come out, O master [of the household],
look at the sheep pen,
there the ewes are nestling
and the lambkin have been born
Your goods [livestock] are great,
you will have a lot of money, [by selling them]
if not money, then chaff: [from all the grain you will harvest]
you have a dark-eyebrowed [beautiful] wife."
Shchedryk, shchedryk, a shchedrivka,
A little swallow flew.
